90pc electricity coverage by 2018
Plans Rural Electrification Board
Bss, Dhaka

Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) has targeted 2018 as the year to bring 90 percent people under its electricity coverage to supplement the government's ongoing development process.

The REB brought 1,56,25,000 consumers under its power supply network and provided new connections to 1,59,000 till June this year through its 78 Palli Bidyut Samity across the country over the last 38 years of its service, according to REB sources.

“The government is pledge-bound to make 'Digital Bangladesh' by ensuring access to power for all by 2021,” Sate Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told the news agency yesterday.

He said the government has undertaken projects to construct transmission lines, enhance its capabilities, reduce hassle and bring more rural people under the coverage. “Currently 76 percent people are enjoying electricity...,” he said. He said the government has a plan to increase power generation capacity to 24,000 megawatt in 2021 and 40,000MW in 2030.

Director General of Power Cell Engineer Mohammad Hossain said the power generation capacity is now over 14,500MW including captive power.

The REB sources said the government is planning to expand rural electrification coverage providing some 25 lakh new connections in the rural areas.

This figure is good but we must me aware that a lot of rural households will not be on the grid but will have a single solar panel on the roof.

For a still weak economy BD needs at least 40,000 mW installed capacity. I am talking about industrial development. Without sufficient supply or rationing of electricity is a recipe for less number of industries. Power is a pre-requisite for a massive industrialization. It will not surprise me if the required total capacity rises to 100,000 mW in the next ten to fifteen years.

Good luck to Bangladesh.

Thats still less than just the wind capacity India has installed right now (and which India plans to increase to 90 GW by 2020).

Bangladesh can aim for more if its confident of 7+ % economic growth rate.

293 kWh is 2013 figure.Data certaainly from 2011/2012 period.Current per capita is 380 kWh.

I only go by internationally accredited statistics. Let it churn through the relevant analysis first.

I don't go around quoting these figures when comparing between countries:

http://www.livemint.com/Industry/jq...electricity-consumption-touches-1010-kWh.html

https://factly.in/indias-per-capita-electricity-consumption-lowest-among-brics-nations/

One of the problems is that sometimes the nationally quoted figures do not compensate for transmission losses compared to the international databases.

Still 300 million Indian don't have electricity. So 26 per cent Indian are out of electricity network compared to 24 percent Bangladeshi who are out of network.Urban Indian wasting electricity while rural Indian remain at dark.

Try again (this was in 2013).

More recently:

About the village electrification, the minister expressed confidence that the target of electrifying 18,452 villages will be achieved a year ahead of the set deadline of May 1, 2018. “We will electrify all 18,452 villages by May 1, 2017, a year ahead than the deadline of May 1, 2018,” the minister added.

24x7 electricity access to everyone by 2019. A capable minister that the likes of Bangladesh can only dream of with its filthy corrupt crooks. No wonder Bangladesh "statistics" are not taken seriously by any major world organisation. There is always such a disparity on many basic economic indicators.

Whats the current power consumption in Bangladesh ?

By 2021 we will need to produce 24000 MW to meet the need 100%.

At present our capacity is 15000 MW. But we produce only 8000 MW on average due to the shortage of coal.

With Nuclear plant and other Plants being built We are supposed to produce enough for the nation.

Are all the thermal plants in Bdesh coal based or do you have any natural gas/oil based ones?

Are you an stubborn idiot? Why are you bringing Indian dicck measuring in every thread. Who cares what Indian wind power produces. I would rather build a latrine first before producing a single MW of power. Thank you.
