Lets recall the news came in 4th November, 2014 (Dawn )
"Only 10 per cent of the defence budget goes to the navy, making even the day-to-day operations, maintenance and repairs a challenge"

Source: Navy gets only 10pc of defence budget

Now here is $4.5 billion , Which Pakistan NAVY knows very well.

News came in from Pakistan Today : Reported by -Mian Abrar

Pakistan Navy Vice Admiral Syed Arifullah Hussaini said during CPEC briefing : “Pakistan currently has only nine merchant ships. Due to shortage of ships, we pay $4.5 billion each year to foreign ships. We can save a significant amount of money if we get more merchandise ships,”

source: Navy ready for new challenges after Gwadar becomes functional | Pakistan Today

Lets Discuss A Merchant Navy is good for Pakistan or not.? Why not Pakistan Navy design these ships according to its own specs for war and merchant operations. Navy officers can complete there basic hours in these ships and also enhance experience.
plus a design which make it possible portable Equipment and Weapons to be install in a Day when Needed.

A plug and Play feature. So we can only buy weapons or manufacture for these ships.

Considering Merchant Navy does not mean to neglect the Regular Combat Capability.it means giving plus factor.

And on the other hand Guns can be installed permanently which will help in case of Pirates.

The Fact is after CPEC this $4.5 billion will change in to really a good shape.

Syed Arifullah Hussaini also said since Pakistan now had a deep sea port at Gwadar so there was a need for building new shipyards at Gwadar and Port Qasim.

o Yes actually our PM have pain in his fingers thats why He can not sign the file already on his desk for approval since 3 months for Gwadar Shipyard

lets share your views about Merchant Navy possibility for Pakistan.

Pakistan's merchant fleet and organization was well respected around the world. We were having a sizable size of maritime register. But then like all things, in 1980s it too went the way of Railways, PIA, Steel mills, thanks to Bhutto and his suckers from jahil Sindhi party called PPPP.

If Pakistan finishes Power shortage in the country , Pakistan can add 7 Billion $ annually to its budget which are being lost due to Electricity shortage , 7 billion $ is almost our Defence budget . If we generate that money in the future some of it should be given to the navy annually for modernization , as the CPEC is being constructed i am hoping we will have less shortage of Electricity in the country InshALLAH .

Switzerland, despite being a landlockedcountry, has a civilian high seas fleet of merchant vessels, whose home port is Basel, on the Rhine. As of 2006, 26 ships (mostly container carriers) totalling 479,624 tons, operated by five shipping companies, flew the Swiss flag.

I hope Bhutto is rotting in hell for doing chit to the nation. every thing sucks in pakistan.

Well if we pay 4.6 billion annually to rent services from ships we can manufacture our own merchant ships for Gwadar and save 4.6 Billion

This can result in future budget increase for Navy with saving of 4.6 Billion dollars

Ship such as this is being sold in market for 1 Million to 7 Million dollars (Used)
To spend 4,600,000.000 USD per year and not buy merchant ships like one below

:o::astagh:
PAC18-01.jpg

Compare the number

4,600,000,000 USD (Transport charges) vs
###7,000,000 USD (USED !!! Buy) Real price on Internet Used ships

Why? even build from scratch buy Used quickly 7 Million per ship only % of 4.6 Billion

1 Billion can buy you 146 Merchant ships !!! Used
Realistically 400 Million gets you 57 Merchant Ships in used market

Get these Services at Pakistani Ports : Give contract to Shipping yard for Improvements/Overhaul etc create jobs in engineering , mechanical engineers etc

  • You are saving 4.0 Billion in 1 Year

When you save 4.6 Billion per year next year give to shipping yard to make

> Type 54 frigates
> F22p
> Missile Boats
> Coast guard ships
> Marine division

Yap when it came then gov know it,otherthan navy officals keep telling in low voices during such events. The best is Navy should jump in this business ,might be little investment from other forces but in a long run they are in good shape.then they can make ur full combat frigates or mine merchant cum combat frigates :)

Navy has Bahria foundation

I hope Bhutto is rotting in hell for doing chit to the nation. every thing sucks in pakistan.

My dad joined PNSC around 1982 as a cadet, when it still was a good company to work for. He always used to say that Pakistani merchant mariners were in demand all over the world, the gulf nations would pay extra if their crew member was a Pakistani and Muslim. But he switched to KOTC because he saw the downfall of PNSC like any other state organization.

We were making quite a few ships every year in our ship yard, and now you can see where the things are.

The problem with Bhutto was the jahil dehati awam that he made his team from. They came in to loot and plunder only. Imagine an idiot like Zulfiqar Mirza was once an employee of PIA.

Nice article but if Pakistan has to pay 4.5 billion to international shipping companies annually for its maretime cargo needs why cant Pakistan spend 2.5 billion anualy for three four years cause for that amount they can have 25-35 brand new large ocean ships each year meaning in five years instead of being a service user it can become a service provider
