28 pages on alleged Saudi ties to 9/11 to be released as soon as Friday

(CNN)The long-classified pages detailing alleged ties of the Saudi Arabian government to the 9/11 hijackers will be released by Congress as early as Friday, sources told CNN Thursday.

Known as the "28 pages," the secret document was part of a 2002 congressional investigation of the Sept. 11 attacks and has been classified since the report's completion. It turns out there are actually 29 pages, sources said. Sources said there are still some procedural steps that need to be taken before the release, which members of both parties in Congress and family members of victims have been seeking for years.
"This is great news," said Jerry Goldman, a lawyer who represents families of victims in a class-action suit, seeking to sue Saudi Arabia. "The families are happy just as the American people should be happy that information that has been kept hidden for well over a decade is finally coming to light."
Former Senator Bob Graham, who chaired the committee that carried out the investigation and has been pushing the White House to release the pages, said Thursday he was "very pleased" by the news. "It is going to increase the questioning of the Saudis' role supporting the hijackers," Graham told CNN. "I think of this almost as the 28 pages are sort of the cork in the wine bottle. And once it's out, hopefully the rest of the wine itself will start to pour out."
Graham added, "Would the U.S. government have kept information that was just speculation away from American people for 14 years if somebody didn't think it was going to make a difference?" Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said the report will be posted on line soon. "The House Intelligence Committee will get the redacted report today or tomorrow," the California Democrat said. "The Senate and House intel committees should then give the formal go ahead to release the report since they originally produced it."
Under pressure from the victims' families and lawmakers, President Barack Obama said in April his administration would declassify the pages.
Sources told CNN that intelligence agencies, law enforcement and the State Department have all reviewed and approved the release of the pages with "minimal redactions."
One of those who wants to read the pages is Terry Strada, who has been pushing for the right to sue Saudi Arabia over its alleged involvement in the attack. Her husband, Tom, was working on the 104th floor of the North Tower when the planes struck. The couple's third child had been born just four days eariler.
"All of this could be settled if we would just release the 28 pages and let everyone see what's in there," Strada said.
"If it was just this low-level ... government officials in the Saudi Arabian government, then they have nothing to worry about," she added. "The American people deserve this just as much as the 9/11 families deserve it, but we're the ones that are suffering by not having them released."
For its part, the Saudi government is also calling for the pages to be made public so that it can respond to any allegations, which it has long called unfounded.
"We've been saying since 2003 that the pages should be released," said Nail Al-Jubeir, director of communications for the Saudi embassy. "That will show everyone that there is nothing there."

And somehow the CIA and bush administration did not know about this hmmm.

Took them 16 years and 3 administration to just release the relity of the situation surronding 9/11. For sixteen years they blamed scape goats like Pakistan just to protect Royal Saudi Arse.

The papers are just a ........

tool .......

to influence .....

---to pressure

If released one must wonder what is the agenda for its release

Where was osama bin laden found finally ?

Doesn't clear up the fact that he was Saudi and not a Pakistani. Also that he received his entire funding from Saudis as well not Pakistan.

US just want to create pressure group against KSA with in US Govt and politics so that the new President will handle KSA with more ease and milk them until they bleed.

When you have no choice but to release documents in order to shut up the public and meanwhile don't wanna blame your ally (actually they are quite handy in the region) even though you're well aware somehow it was them and their ideollogy then and now behind many troubles across the globe ...

Shoura members: Withholding 28 pages of 9/11 probe harmed KSA

RIYADH: Members of the Shoura Council have said that the lack of credible links between the Kingdom and the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks was something to be expected even before it was confirmed by the release of the 28 secret pages by the US Congress on Friday.
They pointed out that the findings in the pages are not new, and that they further confirm the importance of strong leadership on issues relating to terrorism around the globe. Further, the Shoura members added that the declassification of the pages only serve to confirm the Kingdom's status as one of the foremost victims of terrorism in the world, rather than a perpetrator.
Shoura member Ahmed Al-Mofareh said: “Saudi Arabia has suffered from terrorism and has repeatedly called on others to fight it. This is evident in its efforts to create an international center to fight terrorism. Western nations opposed the Kingdom’s suggestion at the time, and now they are paying a heavy price.”
"Furthermore, the delayed publication of the pages gave the Western media an excuse to continue accusing the Kingdom of involvement in the 9/11 incident,” he added.
Fellow member Mohammed Al-Qahtani said that “the Kingdom must have trust in itself, its integrity and in its internal and external policies for fighting terrorism." Citing the CIA testimony, Al-Qahtani said it proved the sincerity, strength and integrity of the Kingdom and its place among nations.
Council member Sadaqa Fadel said that the Kingdom is one of the country's that is most exposed to terrorism in the world, but it is one of the most successful countries in the world in fighting the phenomenon. He added that there are parties and states hostile to the Kingdom that lie in wait to destroy it and its reputation at the local, regional and international levels.
Mohammed Al Naji said: “Our country has repeatedly called for the publication of the results of the investigations about the events of September 11 to resolve this case. The Kingdom is at the top of the list of countries in the world that are fighting terrorism from the foundation of the Islamic religion”.

US and Saudi are indispensable partners...the new government is more likely to give boot to Iran...
