1986: How India and China almost went to war

The Chinese education system and culture fortifies the concept of subservience to the state. The Chinese are currently incapable of looking at facts objectively because they firmly believe whatever their government teaches them or feeds them. They have always been subservient - either to their Emperor or to the Japs or to the Commies. We must not chide them, but as Asia's leading democracy we must make our Chinese brothers take baby steps toward liberating themselves from the stranglehold of the Commies.

Asia's leading democracy? whatever you say. If India is truly democratic, then Indians are the cruelest people on earth, as their army, the 4th largest in the world, are already setting up air bases and declaring war against the poorest, most malnourished and hungriest people in the world.

We are certainly not declaring war against China! You are clearly mistaken.

No offence, but Chinese people have no desire to emulate any political models from India. Democracy and liberalization have always been topics of discussion, but Indian-style 'democracy' and institutionalized corruption are pretty revolting. Keep it within your borders, thanks.

We know that this lack of desire in the Chinese minds is a result of communist conditioning over generations. The Indian endeavor must be to make the poor Chinese people see the light in the larger scheme of things but we need to be patient.

If we want democracy, it's gonna be an organic Chinese development from the grassroots, maybe with lessons from RoC. Please keep your 'democracy' and the attendant corruption/caste system/Hindu supremacism within your own borders. Don't make us forcefully quarantine the virus with assistance from Pakistan/Bangladesh/Nepal/Sri Lankam - you guys ****** a lot when we do that.

that's OK, we will still have Wuhan, Changsha, Chongqing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Xi'an, Nanjing and other world class cities with world class infrastructure. What will be left of India though?

Six or seven SEZs in the South and East taken out and Chinese economy is back in the 19th century. You can live wherever after that, for all I care.

The reality of 2012 - China cant invade India and expect to get away lightly..If we go down we are taking you down with us. A Pyrrhic victory is what China can hope at best.

At the end of 1986, India granted statehood to Arunachal Pradesh, which is an area claimed by China but administered by India. The Chinese government proceeded to protest. But the military movements in Tawang, taken in conjunction with this political action were seen as a provocation by the Chinese. In early 1987 Beijing's tone became similar to that of 1962, and with the Indian Army refusing to stand down, Western diplomats predicted war.

You should be thankful that China decided to have some mercy on you.

Don't think so. Other than Hong Kong, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Qingdao, none of the cities I named were SEZs, yet each and every one of them would be a top tier city in India. Even if you took out all our SEZs (and you won't), we would still be far ahead of India, and after its over, China would still be a leading economy while India would be dust.

Just in case you had any illusions:

Chongqing (Western China):

Keep saying that to yourself...we have at minimum hundred nukes and those six or seven cities will at most require 20 nukes...Guess where the rest of them will be used on ?

Anyway what's the use in arguing with an internet Chinese who has zero say in the govt affairs. If CPC is feeling itchy it can come and try to take what it thinks is its. Else cut the "acting tough" crap. It's not even funny anymore.

1. The government needs strong public support at this time. If it was the difference between losing power and launching a war against India that would increase public support, the choice is obvious. Even if we lost (and we won't lose) the government would win public support for future policies.

2. The Hiroshima bomb was 25 kT and destroyed an area equal to 4 square miles or or 10 square km. Shanghai is 9000 square km. Our smallest bombs weigh in at 1 MT, 40 times more powerful.

Yes!!! Your nukes can wipe only your own people. So stop flattering about your nukes can wipe china out. If we Chinese nukes you, we make sure you will never get any chances to nukes back. So shut up Indian goofs.

you should be thankful we dint invade and occupy tibet in the 80s when our military was more powerful than yours

LOL nobody takes advice from people carrying so many parasites in their bodies from lack of drinking water.

LOL you think China is hungrier than india? Surely those water-borne parasites from lack of proper drinking water have migrated to your brain.

LOL you have no thermonuclear weapons and you have no medium range ballistic missiles. China can nuke away without any repercussions except "international condemnation."

It's okay. I'd accept not trading with the rest of the world for a decade just for the satisfaction :azn:

It is a myth mainly promoted by Hollywood that it was the Americans who caused the defeat of Nazi Germany.

Sure, they played a major part. But the defeat of Nazi Germany can be credited to 2 nations the most -

1. Britain - for holding out and giving the Nazis hell. T

2. Soviet Russia - they were the ones who stopped the Nazi juggernaut.
Britain wasn't even remotely as important as the United States. Contrary to British self-congratulatory rhetoric, Germany never had a remotely realistic chance of either blockading let alone invading the British Isles. The British navy was simply too strong. Britain on the other hand had zero chance of actually launching an invasion of the European mainland by itself. It was already on a several decades long global decline and had no capability to launch any significant counterattacks to answer the already defeated West European allies. It was American power and American power alone that even made the western front a serious threat to Germany at all and that was only possible because of the primary threat of the Soviets who most likely would have been able to eventually defeat Germany single-handedly. Without the Soviets putting the beatdown on Germany, the war would have probably ended in attrition because Germany could not be defeated by bombings alone and a European mainland invasion would be a slaughter because Germany would have defensive forces multiple times stronger and their air force could be deployed in full force in defense of Germany instead of being assigned mostly to the eastern front.
