What's new

In 1971, America almost fought the Soviets (Russia) over Bangladesh

asked her military Chief to invade in May, 1971.

Ordering and asking if its possible are two entirely different things. Indira Gandhi had the sagacity to defer to Manekshaw's advice in a position where many war leaders would not have.

Lets hope for Bangladesh military sake that its officer corp and elite political leadership is not populated by nincompoops that do not know the difference.

You understand everything, yet you are using many words to confuse your own mind. Live happily in your make-believe world. Indira Gandhi was no better a war genius than you are. She is like all other beautiful women with little brains in the head to tell you frankly.

That's the sexist remark I have ever heard in a military forum but whatever. Anyways looks doesn't equal to intelligence. I know many good looking girls who're intelligent af and many bad looking ones who too are quite the same. Anyways take care with this sexist bullshit you put up there.

She didn't need to be a "war genius". That was not her job and she knew it. Proof: She consulted with Manekshaw and did not overrule him when he advised against an early operation. I really don't know what else is needed to be said to discredit your little pathetic agenda at undermining what she did and the chain of command she set up while understanding the importance of delegation and consulting experts when it came to foreign policy and finally military matters.

As a leader of a large developing country, what she did need was guts and conviction....both of which she had in large amounts.

It is good you think just because she's female she had little brains....it shows everyone what you exactly are. You seem to have read next to nothing except some trash for your references....or you have let your poor understanding + strong bias distort the clear facts.

@Levina @Joe Shearer is this guy a lost cause or what?

There's no point in reasoning. He has made a stubborn reality in his little head and will say ANYTHING to try prop it up no matter how silly and offending it sounds.

After all he proposed the mass murder of indian villagers fleeing the floods by BGB. Pretty sad this mentality exists.

Wow. I am ashamed.

Where else is brain located in you? I suspect in the caudal region?

Did Indira Gandhi phoned you to say India had no plan to annex!!!! Seems you stupidity has no boundary line. Stop bullshitting in every thread.

I was rather enjoying your post till this non-sense.

If we wanted to annexe you (and only lunacy would want us to re-visit the path of partition along religious lines), we would have.

Yikes

Read the excerpts below and for the source of BSF early involvement you have to read other accounts, specially, by General Manekshaw, I think. I have lost the links because I am not like fanning Indians who keep on filing pages of links to use them afterwards to annihilate their internet adversaries.

"By the end of April 1971, Indira Gandhi asked Indian Army Chief Sam Manekshaw if he was ready to go to war with Pakistan. Manekshaw refused on the basis of some difficulties (including climatic conditions of the monsoon in East Pakistan) and he also offered to resign, an offer which Indira Gandhi declined. He then said he could guarantee victory if she would allow him to prepare for the conflict on his terms, and set a date for it. Indira Gandhi accepted his conditions."

Read to know, it was only the end of April when the brilliant PM of India wanted to attack not knowing time was not ripe. Do not hide from reality and seek the remaining information by yourself.

MONSOONS ....????

Rings any bell to you???

Nobody attacked. Ask those who were there. Manekshaw had nothing to say about BSF involvement as far as I know. The brilliant PM of India asked a professional a question; he answered it professionally, and she accepted his answer. Unlike the idiot Yahya Khan.

He is thick as a plank.

Oh, @hellfire , if you don't mind the sharing of laurels, there's a chap rather like you (except that he's an azaadi wala), just as thorough and meticulous in his research. He is Junaid Qureshi, the son of the notorious Hashem Qureshi. We disagree violently but have a very close personal relationship.

I will come to his really amusing post in an hour or two.

In this tirade, how did you get diverted to me sir?

Was now reading all your posts of that day .. lol enjoyed how you kicked a$$ with the pic

Coup de grace still awaited.

Dont they realise they are speaking to a guy who was there doing that?LOL

@Joe Shearer
you told me that you was in chadi during 1965 war and it is safe to asume that during 1971 war you was still young then you me and all other are same means you read listen like me and others about these wars OK so don't force other members to take your words as gospel of truth since we are same you did't fought the war just read about like we did you just have ratting power to impose your views so don't be coward reason with us instead of ratting our posts negative.

@Joe Shearer she has a grudge against you, this young lady ...?

I know very very well that India wanted to attack in December because winter will set then and the PLA would not be able to cross the Himalayas. I was only telling the Indians who believe the military brain superiority of their sweet girl Indira Gandhi, when in reality, she, being a naive in military affairs, asked her military Chief to invade in May, 1971.

Us fought against USSr on the behalf of adding two sides of Pakistan,.

41 Prior to the conflict of 1971, many East Pakistanis had long been dissatisfied ... These elites questioned the loyalty of East Pakistanis vis-à-vis India, were ... were Hindus, as “traitors,” and seemed unwilling to accept any settlement that did.

You are quite correct to assess the 1971 situation. It was created by the greedy west Pakistani leaders, and the Punjabi and Indian Muhajir administration elites of the then Pakistan.

We have no regret for the separation. We have become the economically most advancing country in the south asia with 7.05% in the last fiscal that ended in June. We pray for a better Pakistan. You live better and also let us live better.

I was hoping to see Russian and American posters here to give their thoughts, but nope. It's mostly just a bunch of Indians and Pakistanis flaming each other as usual.

In October 1971, the PRC resumed its seat on the Security Council.
In August 1972, China used its veto to reject Bangladesh's accession to the UN.
China's position at that time was very clear.
