What's new

See what your country tops the world in

UK, SA, Dubai, UAE
he is rich he was rich before politics and after being in power he is mega rich

Oh, I see. Then he must not have much incentive to improve things in Pakistan as he will always have the option to leave and live the rest of his life in riches. It is rather tragic since the fate of 190 million people are in balance.

On another point, it is such a good thing, that Iran has the world's largest fleet of NGV since it has the world's second largest gas reserves as well.

I have a question from Pakistani brothers and sisters, why do you think Pakistan has the world's highest perinatal mortality rate?

Dunno probably because abortion is legal in Pakistan in order to control birth rates, last time I heard we have 3 million abortions every year. And including infant mortality rates which are too quite high it was bound to happen. But the good part is (yes the goooood part) the birth rates are being reduced and the population might stabilize by 2020 (hopefully)

I do not think so. The definition of perinatal mortality rate does not include intentional abortions. And almost all prediction models, predict Pakistan's population to stabilize by 2050 not 2020 which is just 5 years from now. By 2050, Pakistan will have a population of 360 million and it will stabilize at that number (per UN stats that I have seen).

I never mentioned intentional abortions I don't think they are legal:p: mainly abortion could also be done if the health of the female is fatal and considering the poor health facilities in Pakistan this is very common. And for the population I didn't know that.. Thanks for correcting me.

No problem. Actually intentional abortion is when the pregnancy is terminated as a form of post conception contraceptive. Mostly it is not because of medical reasons but because the parents do not want the child. It is very strange that abortion has become common in Pakistan since most Muslim scholars do not consider it as permissible.

Oh! I nearly forgot. Because of the many people in Pakistan who live as natives and follow their traditions they don't use health facilities (albeit the facilities are utter crap) so in absence of care the mother and her unborn child have to suffer.:(

That's sad. The government should ensure that these expectant mothers have whatever facility they need. It is really sad.

I know but the religious extremists don't want prosperity in Pakistan. They believe every new thing is haraam they deliver fake Fatwas they try to kill polio workers, they even attack hospitals. These people are the true miscreants and the cowards.

Sometimes when I see Pakistan's problems, I come to conclusion that you need a period of true dictatorship to deal with all these problems first and then move towards democracy and freedom. A dictatorship like that of Mao or Stalin so that the fear of state is ingrained in the soul of every citizen. Right now, it is anarchy.

It is not to say that democracy and freedom is bad, it is just the ground situation should define what works and sometimes it is better to use other tools to fix the problems if the already implemented tool is not working.

Exactly!, everyone in my family believes that we need Pakistan ruled by a person who is not afraid to "Pakistanify" everyone Pakistan doesn't need corrupt bureaucrats as leaders, not when we have more than half the population of illiterates and those who think "I" before "Us" we need a single, disciplined reign not filled with extremists but with realists; people who have grown up looking this nation trapped in the chains of corruption and extremism. We need a single reign where the corrupt, feudal and sadists have no place to hide.

I do not think there is a need to "Pakistanify" anything. I was of the view that such a dictator must have obsessive compulsive disorder for development and implementing the rule of law with an entire focus on internal development of Pakistan rather than playing geopolitical games and enriching his own family and friends. Because Pakistan is not a natural resource rich country therefore such a dictator must focus on development of human resources through massive educational reforms. But anyways that is just what I can think of. Too much nationalism actually destroys a country. It is better to focus on something that has some output in 20 years time eg. rule of law, education, healthcare, social reforms and egalitarianism.

So you meant focus on long term issues..... But out of topic you might be surprised by the amount of natural resources in Pakistan, but yeah like I said "corrupt bureaucrats" and extremists will never let Pakistan prosper. We need to get rid of them.

I meant natural resources on a global scale. The only high value natural resource that I am aware of which exists in Pakistan on a global scale is copper (which Pakistan has not even invested in). But yeah, without long term goals, even dictatorship will not save Pakistan. The issue is beyond corruption. It is the true lack of understanding of problems and long term planning. But then you know best.
