The 1st idea of a separate muslim country was given by bengali itself in 1906 and muslim league was also formed in Dhaka university at that time and on top it the separation of Pakistan document was submitted by a Bengali also n I think you know him sher e bengal A Q Fazlul haque. Anyway the demand was that for east Pakistan to keep Bengali as the official language but Pakistani ruler of that time only was asking for urdu even without considering what the people of east pakistan wants. I do not know whether you know it or not in 1951 people of est pakistan used to make 61% of total pakistani population. So naturally it seemed insulting to them that some minority group even without consulting them and on top of it Bengali language is much much older then urdu or hindi and even has rich history of literature, poetry and glory associated with it. Bengali is the language which has been used to make the national anthem of both Bangladesh and History and due to Bengali literature Rabindranath got noble prize in literature which none other get so far in south asia.
