Abandoning status as "Islamic Republic"

What direction do you want Pakistan to follow?

  • Secular

  • Other

Why shouldn't Pakistanis simply give you the finger and say they've had enough of being treated like children?

Till the majority of Pakistanis are still Muslim, Islam won't be going anywhere from the laws.

According to the Constitution of Pakistan, we are an Islamic state and all laws need to conform with shariah (trying to change the constitution is treason).

All that Pakistan needs is implementation to become a proper practising Islamic state. Today shariah and Islam exists only on paper.

Our experimentation with trying to get an Islamic state gave us Swat,Red Mosque and TTP rule in FATA it just cannot wprk its bound to be hijacked by extremist elements its time we stop our experimentation and adapt a system similar to Turkey

We shouldnt experiment on our people

As an Indian I have a simple question. Do the Pakistanis still see themselves as some kind of liberators for Indian Muslims or do they relate to Indian Muslims in any way in the present times?

The reason for me asking this question is because I believe that till the Pakistanis can get out of the 1947 narrative of Two Nation Theory (which defines their existence) there won't be anything such as a "Secular" Pakistan. Pakistan's DNA is Islamic. Even adopting "secular" tag just for the sake of blending in with the rest of world will result in some kind of a civil war within Pakistan.

Pakistan was created because Jinnah and co were afraid that in a Hindu dominated Country, there would always be episodes of violence and disagreement between the two chief religions, as Muslims of India had grown to become an almost different culture. Thus Pakistan was created so that the Muslims and Hindus can live in peace alone. Pakistan was created because the Muslim League felt the new "Hindus"tan would not be secular enough, not because it wouldn't be "Islamic" enough. Do we want to end up like the Middle East?

I believe in the present times India is as "Secular" as the United States(Trump is the Republican front-runner and the closer look at his vote bank and speeches for getting popular support will give you an idea of what I'm talking about). And well you can't get more "secular" or "democratic" than the US, can you? Given that the "universal" standards of "democracy" or "secularism" is now monopolized or defined by the US. Think of Jinnah's ideology like a software written with codes formulated during Macaulay's educational reforms of 1835. Politics or Power was the virus which hindered the intended function of this software, making him "secular" father of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan of modern times.

We shouldnt experiment on our people

We never experimented properly.

Red Mosque and TTP happened because of Musharraf backstabbing the jihadi groups after 9/11.

No need to experiment with something that is not going to work

Or the jihadi groups showing their true face and intent towards the people of our country

What do you expect them to do when we supported them and threw them away like toilet paper? They fought Pakistan's battles and were backstabbed by Musharraf. A man who even humiliated Abdul Qadeer Khan, Hamid Gul (true patriots) and sold citizens to the US.

Of course we can't forget. But what kind of silly cop out is that? We made them fir our benefit and then betrayed them due to forwign powers.

First one actually needs to define what an Islamic state is. different groups have different interpretations.

In most countries the interpretation that resonates most with our population is what TTP wants to implement
Be carefulcwhat you wish for cuz you just might get it :D

We don't see ourselves as liberators. We either:

1. Don't think twice about them (most common)
2. Sympathise with them and their problems (fairly common, but not amongst the more patriotic bunch)
3. View them as munafiq (I adhere to this thought process, but only for the more patriotic Indian Muslims)
