What's new

Our Army of 1.3 million is not to ‘preach peace’, Manohar Parrikar says

Why ? He didn't say anything wrong, he is DM not Foreign Minister. There is no constituency in India anymore for making silly pointless overtures to Pakistan. If Pak wanted negotiations and peace they should have taken the hand offered by vajpayi.

Besides it gives the Pakistani media something to talk about .
Not a problem in what he is saying, but it seems like he is having quite a tough time with articulation.

Pakistan Version Have No Meaning For India Neither For Anyone Else Internationally
Because you say so, right?

Not really. Pakistan has been involved in practically every insurgency that India has faced...right from fake indian currency(FICN) laundering to trying to help NE militants to Kashmir to Punjab.

And Pakistan has done this for decades.

So why exactly should India look for peace with Pakistan?
India has also been involved with practically every insurgency Pakistan has faced, and not just Pakistan, Sri Lanka as well. There are even allegations that India may be funding the xinjiang insurgency as well, against China.

The benefits of looking for peace with Pakistan should be obvious, and not worth repeating. War between the two is completely disastrous for the region.

Nice....new RM is a hawk .... has a technocratic mind and good admin experience.
That Dollar General Shareef will be outwitted.

General Shareef is a professional General unlike your bhangi Generlas. Before you insult any more serving Pak Generals be ready to be replied in the same manner. Cheers.

Quick history lesson.

in 1965 UN intervened in the conflict just like US did in 1999. india was winning the war. pakistan was left with 3 days of oil and ammunition for 5 days. actually UN helped pakistan from getting defeated in that war. Indian forces reach lahor at the time UN call for ceasefire.

in 71 pakistan was helped by US, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, iran, syria and egypt. mean time india didn't get any help from anyone except USSR they stopped US aircraft carrier from reaching the bay of Bengal. US also put pressure china to send its troops to fight india but china knows that they are not in any position to fight a well prepared force in india and they knows that indra gandhi was not like her father. she won't hesitate to use all the resources available to fight china. and yes USSR also helped india by threatening china that if they send any soldier to fight against india then Beijing will be blown to dust. but USSR didn't provide any weapons to fight during the war, they didin't directly helped us.
mean time pakistan get fighter jets from iran Jordan and sriya. remember during 70s sriya, SA and Jordan was very powerful. indian won the battle by our own. india entered into east Pakistan at the time when mukthi bahinis were getting killed by pakistan army. remember the fact that india won the battle in just 13 days!!! that too makes pakistan army to surrender their 97,000 soldiers.

in 1999 war pakistan army failed to secure the position despite having advantage of being at the high position, have time for prepare, have element of surprise, better logistic support, they even had artilary supports... but dispite having all these advantages pakistan army failed. they can't even block indian army from capturing the posts,

Ahem... No, in 1965 India was very much brought to the negotiating table. Fact. And I have dozens of pictures of Pakistani soldiers in conquered Indian territory. Don't bring out hyperbole. India managed to save itself by gaining help from USSR in the Tashkent treaty, read about it.
1971
In case you didn't know those 90000 z PoWs were officers and their families, in reality Pakistan had placed 34000 combat troops. Pakistan got aircrafts from various gulf nation, but were not used because of safety reasons. Fact. USA sent a fleet to evacuate it's citizens. Fact. US did not pressure China to do anything, in fact USA had condemned Pakistan for having good relations with China. Fact. And Indian armed forces attacked Bengal when Pakistan army were scarce on resources. Fact. India gained situational warfare intelligence with the help of USSR which by the way was also behind helping India train Mukti Bahini. Fact.
Now to Kargil.
If you didn't know Pakistan still holds strategic places in Kargil, Pakistan army has not been ousted from the region. Fact. And remember the fate of the MiGs that crossed into our airspace?. So tell me? How much has your army progressed against Maoists?. Meanwhile on our side last year we began a military campaign and guess what the Taliban remain in their last stronghold knowing that they will die with our hands around their neck. And no USSR provided India with a lot of weaponry, especially ordinance. Go ahead prove these facts wrong with reality.

He takes dollars from US to fight his own citizens. (now renminbeis??)
It is factually correct.

Last time I remembered the Government of Pakistan takes the money. Unless you have sources which say that Raheel Shareef himself takes money from USA... Which you don't, thus you are a liar.

Whats the difference. Switch back the date and your nationals on this forum and beyond had been calling Shareef's moves as a "soft coup". Apart from that by dollar I also mean the military equipment that PA receives...e.g. F16 and hellfires etc.

Do you have sources and I mean legitimate sources?. Yes or No?. FYI Pakistan purchased F-16s from It's own money. As for hellfires, we don't use them. Anything else?. (Do provide the sources).

But we saw 1 million fully armed bharti soldiers crapping on the border for one whole year, preaching would have been a better alternative..

NEW DELHI: Undeterred by the controversy over his earlier "terrorists have to be neutralized only through terrorists" remark, defence minister ManoharParrikar has asserted that he will go to "any extent" to protect India and those who attack will be "paid back in the same coin".

Parrikar noted that his remarks evoked a sharp reaction only from one country and, without naming Pakistan, said the question was about his reaction on the terrorist camps in Azad Kashmir supported by Pakistan. "So the response was based on that," he told PTI in an interview.

He further added that the word "neutralize" does not mean only killing, but also making terrorists switch the sides and surrendering.

Underlining that his remark was generic and not against anyone in particular, Parrikar maintained that only a certain part of his remarks was picked up and highlighted.

"Basically, if I have to defend my country, I will go to any extent ... Whatever is required to be done will be done. That is the basic motto which one should have.

"If someone harms my country, I have to take pro-active action ... The Army's basic purpose is that if anyone attacks the country, attack him back. Pay him back in the same coin," Parrikar asserted, underlining that one does not keep 13 lakh-strong Army to "preach peace".

However, he clarified that "I have not said I am going to do covert operation. I did not talk about it. The person who asked me talked about covert operation. Not me."

During a media event last week, Parrikar, in reply to a question, had said, "We have to neutralize terrorists through terrorists only. Why can't we do it? We should do it."

The remarks generated sharp reaction from Pakistan which said it confirms apprehensions about India's involvement in terrorism.

"This statement only confirms Pakistan's apprehensions about India's involvement in terrorism in Pakistan. It must be the first time that a minister of an elected government openly advocates use of terrorism in another country on the pretext of preventing terrorism from that country or its non-state actors," Sartaz Aziz, adviser to Pakistan prime minister on foreign affairs, has said.

"It is my duty to go to any extent. It is my oath that I have taken that I will protect the constitution. Protecting constitution means protecting the country. So obviously, for protection of my country, certain issues have to be done. Giving interpretation to it, I will not give," Parrikar said.

The minister also said he is clear when he talks about neutralizing. "The word neutralizing does not mean killing all the time. Neutralizing means a person surrendering, using someone against someone, it can be through peaceful means also. Neutralizing means he comes on your side. That means intelligence," he said.

Parrikar said he has directed the Army that if someone starts firing at them, "then kill him".

"I have told Army that they should not hesitate. Don't lose your men like Col Rai who was such a brave soldier. I can't afford to lose such wonderful men," Parrikar said.

Col MN Rai was killed in Jammu & Kashmir in January by a terrorist who said he was surrendering after being encircled. He fatally shot Col Rai before being gunned down.

"My instructions are clear. Don't lose your personnel. Be careful about human rights, be careful about collateral damage because at times you are operating in a densely populated area. And though you may know that populated areas are also harbouring terrorists, civilians should not be harmed," he said.

Our Army of 1.3 million is not to ‘preach peace’, Manohar Parrikar says - The Times of India

judging from the statements coming from indian military leadership it looks more like that they are very unprofessional bunch just looking for trouble to test their newly imported toys.

Army job is not just to fight wars but also to prevent wars.

India can't wage a war. It's army is weak, untrained and ineffective. Operation Parakram laid its faults bare. India managed to kill 2,000 of its own soldiers without so much as Pakistan batting an eyelash.

The wars of today have no parallel in history hence your immediate inkling to bring 1971 into this is both an exercise in folly and futility. Let this be bait. Let this also be a paradigm of your ignorance.

What ever makes you happy. I rather have a weak army who can defend integrity of our nation than a strong army which surrenders in 90,000 and split the country in half. I rather have a weak army that only concerns about defending its own countrues territorial integrity than the one whose only glorifies in Military coups. :sarcastic:

Have seen many dead indian soldiers, in fact one memory of indian soldiers pilled up - maggot and insect infected had a visceral effect, could not eat for a couple of days.

One criticism - I have of the indian Army - we had a policy of taking out their officers and JCO's - the soldiers would then be easy to pick off, because the IA grunts had zero capacity to think for themselves once they lost their leaders.
Thats right , But why you begged India to stop firing so that you can take back maggot and insect infected , decomposed dead body of your soldiers for your check post when last firing flared up ??

For the last few years, Pakistan has been trying to show that it wants peace. Going so far as to ignore India's attempts to provoke Pakistan into escalating tensions.

The ball is in India's court, not Pakistan, to show that it wants peace between the two. Times have changed, but India seems to think otherwise.
lol you seriousness was seen in Kargil and also in Mumbai...... Now India has taken a policy of escalation to the level where PAK feel the that much heat so it has to raise White Flag, Now India is talking in the language which PAK understand better.
