I just checked the so-called "2010 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index", just a survey in 2010 jointly done by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (an accounting / audit firm) and the US Council on Competitiveness (it is a NGO, check website Compete.org — The Council on Competitiveness ). The survey was to learn how manufacturing CEOs and other senior leaders view their industry’s competitiveness around the world. The initiative is based, in part, on the responses of more than 400 senior manufacturing executives worldwide to a wide-ranging survey discussing the current business environment and global competitiveness inthe manufacturing sector. The study also draws on select interviews with key manufacturing players as well as unique insights provided by the professionals at Deloitte, the Council, and Clemson University. It is not an analysis based on statistical data of manufacturing industry.

How to measure manufacturing industry? Like manufacturing value-added?

How to measure manufacturing industry? Like manufacturing value-added?

Yes, that's one of the most objective indicators.

World Bank keeps track of this:

Manufacturing refers to industries belonging to ISIC divisions 15-37. Value added is the net output of a sector after adding up all outputs and subtracting intermediate inputs. It is calculated without making deductions for depreciation of fabricated assets or depletion and degradation of natural resources. The origin of value added is determined by the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC), revision 3. Data are in current U.S. dollars.
World Bank national accounts data, and OECD National Accounts data files.

Not bad. But Indian national heavy industrial capability is still weak if you want to be a global player. In my view, it is very hard for India national corporations to climb up the industrial ladder, the industry international market competence is too harsh even for us whom has very powerful government support and vast internal market. India is far behind, frankly speaking ,your competitors are countries such as Vietnam,Bangladesh ,Indonesia and so on,you have to defeat them before you advance to next stage, or else, maybe you have some great achievements such as air carriers and satellites, but you still can't become a global player.
I don't look down upon India, and no offence, but I bet Vietnam would be the next winner if VCP continues the regime, since the East Asian model has been proved successful again and again. However, I think there is a very important trend, China starts to introduce robots in our factories at a large scale and rapid speed,we gradually make robots better and better,we already have robot company in the list of global top 5 just after short ten years, this is just the beginning since our government just start to make strategic policy to support robots industry. if this continues,we will cut the cost of robot to a low level, even much lower than a man one day, I think the day no more than decade,at that time, the large low cost population would be meaningless, the door of East Asian model would be shut, maybe it is not a good future for poorer countries, time is urgent for you.

Incorrect. Arabs/Muslims introduced math to the world. Maybe india helped out the world with rocket engines made 10,000 years ago.

it is national trait of Indian that like to brag cluelessly and extremely deluded````no offence, from every social and development indicator that India is still quite primitive, at least 30 years behind China````your country's primitive position wont change dramatically in 5 year period,

we probably need 20 years to catch up with the US```but for India it wont be able to catch up with today's China in 30 years time, were the brag and delusion still your national trait

Incorrect, even before the Arabs had a cohesive kingdom (and centuries before Islam even came into existence, when they were idol worshipping kaffirs), India and China had a quite developed system of numerals, Pythagoras and geometry.

HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS

BTW, zero was discovered in India, without which none of todays digital world could exist:)

The world adopted arabic numerals to denote numbers. That doesn't mean that Maths didn't exist before it. Its like saying we today (you and me) posting in English so England discovered language whereas before even England came into being, there were hundreds of other important languages.

But I guess its too much to ask for from haters and trolls like you.

“BTW, zero was discovered in India, without which none of todays digital world could exist:)"

No offense, but this word above is too ridiculous,we also have ZERO concept in our civilization , we prosper for thousands of years as a empire before we use digital numbers, because the west used and spread the digital number when the human history became global at first time,if the dominator was not west at that key history time,we maybe would use other thing to calculate instead, and the world would exist and run smoothly as Today. You guys boast too much about Indian ZERO contribution.
1.number is not created by Arabs,it is common sense.
2.if you think India is at the same level with us, it is OK.
3.some indian people are very ego and never accept true words, they just like to boast. Franking speaking,it is good,We like this kind of competitors, and we don't like the country like Britain, they are too sophisticated .

You not even in top 15 having robotics workforce.

In 30 years time you ll cross usa and we will cross you.Indian economy will Surpass China 2050.
As per the report, Indian economy will reach $85.97 trillion size in terms of purchasing power parity by 2050, while the Chinese GDP would be $80.02 trillion during the same period.

The US — currently the world’s largest economy — is expected to have a GDP of $39.07 trillion by 2050.
Other nations in the top ten list of world’s largest economies would be Indonesia (4th), Brazil (5th), Nigeria (6th), Russia (7th), Mexico (8th), Japan (9th) and Egypt (10th).
