DRDO's AESA radar for tajas mk2 is derived from Israeli EL/M 2052

Is there anything pure Indian in this plane? Except for brain farts?
1) The entire airframe.
It wasn't designed and tested in Chengdu, like "Pakistan's" JF-17.
2) The EW suite and the jammers:
They were both completely homegrown, a feat which Pak cannot hope to do in the near future.
3) The entire FBW system for the aircraft.
Again, something that Pak just cannot hope to make.
4) Composite materials
A very cutting edge technology that few countries have the brains to research and develop.
5) Fully glass cockpit.
Forget glass cockpit, Pakistan has not designed even an analog one.
6) Avionics - dedicated mission computers, display processors, video switching units, digital map generators, each with separate modules & processor units, all as separate boxed LRUs; an innovative open architecture computer to handle all these.

Want more? There is a lot more, but this should be enough for starters. This is just what I could name off the top of my head. The LCA Tejas is more Indian than the Gripen is Swedish. The Su-30MKI is more Indian than the JF-17 is Pakistani. Food for thought.

It is risible that a country that cannot make a motorbike should try to beliittle India's accomplishments, no matter how modest they may be in comparison to major aerospace powers.

No matter what you say.....you cannot make a donkey drink...at best you can do it take it to the water. Gende ki chamdi se protect kar rakkha huwa hai...apne chiti wali aqal...no point explaining. It's a good development....enjoy.

Yes, all the easy components, concepts taken from rest of the world, do some programming over 30 years, and call them Indian. Hey, i assembled a PC. should it be called my own product?

By that logic, JF-17 is already ahead. As usual, bring Pakistan in when cannot stay on topic.

The Radar is imported, the initial weapons are imported, the delta design was a rip off of a Mirage (yes India designed that), putting up few bolts and Nuts, yes India did that. Yet, the main things like Engine and Radar cannot be done at home. Great achievement for 1.2 billion people.
Now to put some reality into your mind:

All of the components/systems that you mentioned, likewise on JF-17 were designed in Pakistan. Heck, even the open architecture (C/C++) was Pakistani, so was the LERX, DSI etc.

If it took you 30 years to develop a FBW and put together some bunch of LCDs, then yes be proud of your achievements.

Really? "Easy components"? Like say, the airframe? How many countries have produced a 4+ gen airframe with acceptable flight characterestics?

No it isn't; not by a long shot.

True. Just like the engine and radar of Gripen are imported. Is Gripen a Swedish fighter?

This is beyond pathetic. I guess all aircrafts today were stolen from the Wright brothers, because all of them have wings and a fuselage. Please show us, with mathematical modelling, how Tejas' design were ripped off the mirage 2000. If you want modelling tools, I can provide you open source ones. I would love to know how you arrived at the conclusion that the design was stolen from M-2K. Seems like you have no clue about aviation at all, to make such a statement.

None of them were. The airframe and FBW were developed in China, so was the radar. The engine is Russian. Where did the flight tests of JF-17 take place? Chengdu, which is not in Pak. Painting a Chinese aircraft green and calling it Pakistani might soothe your ego, but it doesn't fool anybody else. Even the Su-30MKIis more Indian than the JF-17 is Pakistani. Whatever you have done with JF-17, we have been doing since the 1950 - with gnats, Jaguars, mig-21s, Su-30s. While we are at it, tell me which of the LRUs or EW suite were developed in Pakistan?

Don't fool yourself, Indian aerospace industry is far ahead of what Pakistan can hope to match. There is a reason why we are putting satellites into orbit around mars, and you are trying to make a 4 stroke engine. If you want to soothe your ego, compare yourself with Somalia or Zimbabwe, not with your much superior neighbours.

@Topic, this news certainly correlates with what the DRDO have been saying for a while (vis a vis the radar for the Mk.2 and the Elta connection), I don't understand the needs for such secrecy on this front but oh well.

The world is full of Boson... And LCA is full of boson.. Check what is it and you will know what is Indian about it...

I am quite surprised it is a EL/M-2052 derivative though- this is a very powerful radar for its modest size and if this turns out to be true the LCA Mk.2 (along with all its other upgrades/refinements) is going to be an impressive machine as the IAF's "low end" fighter.

Let's wait for other sources to report this. To me, it seems unlikely, for several reasons. I wouldn't mind if it was true - the El/M-2052 is a fantastic radar for such a small fighter. But earlier they were arm twisted by the US into not selling them to India, and I don't think anything has changed for that to be different now. Besides, DRDO has been working to build a fighter sized AESA to fit on the Tejas.

A foreign radar might be better than anything DRDO can come up with, in the next few years; but if nobody is willing to sell us one with complete ToT, then the DRDO radar is our best bet for Mk2.
