What's new

Lest we forget

On September 21, 1999, Pakistan lodged a compensation claim at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, accusing India of shooting down an unarmed aircraft. Pakistan sought about $60 million in reparations from India and compensation for the victims' families (The cost of the aircraft lost in the incident is put at >$35 million.) India's attorney general, Soli Sorabjee, argued that the court lacked jurisdiction,[17] citing an exemption it filed in 1974, to exclude disputes between India and other Commonwealth States, and disputes covered by multi-lateral treaties.[18] In the buildup to the case, India also contended that Pakistan had violated the 1991 bilateral agreement between Pakistan and India on air violations, which states "Combat aircraft (to include fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, jet military trainer, and armed helicopter aircraft) will not fly within 10 km of each other’s airspace including Air Defense Identification Zone."[19]

On June 21, 2000, the 15-judge Bench headed by Gilbert Guillaume of France ruled—with a 14–2 verdict—upholding India's submission that the court had no jurisdiction in the matter.[20] The court dropped Pakistan's claims, without recourse to appeal, the outcome seen as a decision highly favorable to India.[21] The ruling constituted a financial setback to the Pakistan government which had spent close to 25 million Pakistani rupees (approx. $400,000) preparing for the case, much higher than what India spent

You lost the case on a neutral setting. End of discussion. The plane was given a choice, even though it was in Indian airspace, it failed to respond after repeated warnings. India hence, was within rights to shoot it down.

It was a unfortunate incident and the loss of life is regretted. However, the IAF acted according to International Law and did nothing illegal.

PS - The incident also came just two months after Kargil. This obviously had a lot to do with it.

Well they did not say Pakistan was wrong rather they said court had no jurisdiction so they cannot solve the issue and mind you it was avenged later on.So no problem.

Took you five hours to tick, Pakistan is indeed an ideal neighbor, it's India which has issues with all countries surrounding it. Sixty years of history and 90,000 graves in Kashmir are very hard to misjudge. Pakistan only follows the motive of respect and self determination, something missing in Indian constitution.

Plz plz stop because i cant stop laughing lol Joke of the day for sure lol respect and self determination, Terrorism in south Asia cough cough lol Ulta choor kutwal ko dante lol

That cross border terrorism by Indian army.

Yup your soo right, India is the root of all problems, including Terrorism in south Asia, supporting the Taliban, sneaking into border right after a peace visit etc etc. Pakistan is a saint which never does anything wrong, its all India. Happy now ?

Let me remind you that apart from India, Iran, Afghanistan and China are also Pakistan's neighbours. The rant is exclusive to India.
How do you rank your relationship with, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc. Don't tell me it's smooth all the way.:disagree:

Ohh really i dont think Afghanistan really likes you guys that much lol I know many Afghani’s, they dont really have a very good opinion about Pakistan but on the other hand they love India. Infact there is a huge Afghani community in Delhi's Khan Market region. They just adore India and the Indian culture. Hmm i can say the same about Iranian too lol The Chinese, well lets say they have different motives that you wont understand lol The problem is not with countries but with your prospective that is full of hate and no one can do anything about that.

No dude i am not obsessed about your country nor i have any interest in your country..i only refute the claims that only India has problems with its neighbors while you are on a good path..I am just pointing out that every country has its problem with its neighbors..while in a hurry to bash India you just forget to look up on the ground realities of your country :)

Nice try bro, but people who do not want to see the light will always close their eyes.

But the sauve, wannabe suitor of Ms. Condoleeza Rice, Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shaukat Aziz ran away from Pakistan Sir. Or is he "comfortable" in Pakistan now? :undecided:

But everybody is surely very smartly clad though. Nice picture.

The Ex-Prime Minister was a City Bank employ and returned to render his services, however ignoring your habitual sarcastic remarks, my reference was to cadet belonging to the minority race.
