What's new

India slowly replacing China as auto mfg hub

Hmmm- you know it's a strange thing...countries usually get business because they have some sort of 'competitive advantage' and as far as I know cheap labor is supposed be one---wonder why that is so :super:

A German assembly line worker at VW earns per month as much as an average Indian in two years.

Same logic applied cheap Indian labor.

which happens to be a great and desirable logic in manufacturing

A German assembly line worker at VW earns per month as much as an average Indian in two years.

I'm sure that's true...maybe that's why many of them are always on the verge of losing their jobs

ORly? For earning more then 20 x the average wage of an Indian, we still are one of the strongest in car mfg. Of course our car mfg companies have built dozens of factories in foreign countries to serve the local markets, but the high end cars are all manufactured here. Cars that India will not be able to mfg. in 50 years.

BTW, we are only a 80 million folk, India has 1.2 billion.

Yeah so losing those jobs won't be a problem for you...I recommend that VW shift all it's production (including high end cars- we make nuke submarines so making a few 'high end' cars won't be a problem) to India to remain competitive...you don't wanna lose your hard earned position to, say, the Koreans, Chinese or tata do you?

You pseudo-secular.

Must be a foreign recruit to the CCP 50 cent internet army

Dude am born and raised in India. It is just a metaphor don't get all worked up. Or may be you were being sarcastic I can not tell

Our unemployment rate is at its lowest since the late 1990s.

We keep the high-end production at home. Our core industries are as competitive as ever by miles.

Production in India is problematic. Red tape, corruption, shoddy infrastructures are all adding to the production cost. Just compare the FDI of China and India of the last 10 years and you will find the reason. Even little Germany receives more FDI than India.

Stating facts is not anti Indian but you know most of the people living in west do not compare their countries with India. Germany is a developed country with high living standards why bother comparing to a developing nation?

Oh I can give you a great idea- since you are so enamored with 'high end' cars, you keep them. Transfer all production of your 'low end' volume cars, especially your Golf, Polo, Vento etc. lines to poor India. That way with high labor costs and input costs coupled with low volumes you will have the enjoyable experience of watching your economy bleed to death. 'Win- win' situation. And forget all the big big things, many Indian companies have won the Deming prize, so you wont have problems finding partners here who can make world class quality and they have enough clout to cut through things like 'red tape'.

Depends upon who's saying it

We still have the local and neighboring markets to serve and not everyone in Europe is rich enough to by BMW 7 Series or Porsche. What our car mfg. companies manufacture in foreign countries are for foreign markets. VW and Mercedes does have factories in India, albeit not as many as in the US or China because those markets are a few times bigger and it's easier to make money there than India.

Don't worry, we wouldn't be at our position if we don't know what we are doing.
