At this year's Dubai Airshow officials from the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) in Kamra discussed their plans for a future Block 3 variant of the Chengdu JF-17/FC-1 fighter now that the Block 2 model has a mature configuration. The aircraft is produced jointly by the PAC and Chengdu Aerospace Corporation in China.

"The Block 3 aircraft now exists in the form of a conceptual design and a list of mission requirements," said one of the senior Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officers assigned to the programme, "but no concrete decisions have been made about the choice and configuration of the onboard systems for the aircraft."

can anyone pls clarify what are the features of block 2 ??

does any block 2 aircraft exist?

Both Block II and III have been planned and discussed for years. JF-17 BLK II will start rolling off the assembly line at Kamra beginning early 2014. Block III will not materialize till 2016.

Block 2 will have composite materials for stronger air frame + Air to Air refueling + May be a new Chinese WS-13 engine (not finalized yet) + new avionics and weapons (not sure yet). I don't think PAF has taken delivery of Block 2 yet.

Read my lips. AESA.

That is so obvious. For me it should be radical structural changes to allow more payload and stealthiness and for deeper penetration into enemy's territory and something like single glass canopy etc

How sure are you, most of us have already been disappointed with all the stories about AESA, engine upgrades and IRST in block 2.

;)

For J-10B and J-20 and most probably for FC-1 batch 2

@RAMPAGE, the question is not whether china has the capability, the question is does our airforce leadership has the foresight and more importantly money to do so. If Chinese capability was the only factor we would have already seen ray stone-6 aesa on block-2.

Please tell what things will be in block 2 for sure and which are not certain
