Guys,

Some days ago i was on ADA website where it claims that LCA uses 40% composites in air frame making it only fighter using that much composite material in any 4th gen fighter jet.

Today I visit Typhoon website and it says something like this...

"The airframe surface area is made up of 70% Carbon Fibre Composites (CFCs), 15% lightweight alloys and titanium, 12% Glass Reinforced Plastics (GRP) and 3% other materials. In other words, metals make up only 15% of the materials used in building a Eurofighter Typhoon."
Eurofighter Typhoon - Carbon Fibre Composites

If Typhoon is using 70% Carbon Fiber composites in its air frame.. I think it is fighter jet with most carbon fiber percentage in its airframe.

Is it true or LCA claim is something else and i am mixing two different things here? Hope i am not.:what:

sorry but you are getting it wrong,,
here you go, it is from your own post:

i guess you got it now, you wrote it yourself but missed the point,
well it happens,,
LCA claims are to be the fighter with highest use of composities in 4th generation planes whereas Eurofighter is 4.5 generation or if you allow me, a 4.75 generation plane.
bro i hope it is clear now, and, now i am wondering what will be thread future discussion about!!

regards!

Dear I don't think airframe in 4th and 4.5th gen is that much of difference it is avionics.Which can turn any 4th gen into a 4.5 gen or maybe engine... but composites are being used in airframes. This is the point.

Advanced composites constitute more than 40% of the LCA airframe including wings, fin and fuselage, resulting in significant weight reduction. Co-cured cobonded technology for fuselage components, fin, rudder, elevons, airbrake and landing gear doors has ensured cost-effectiveness. The radome is made of Kevlar. The airframe has been strengthened to withstand high 'g' manoeuvres during close combat. Static and fatigue strength studies on finite element models, and aeroservoelastic studies have optimised the airframe for high strength and durability.

LCA is designed for active combat in any adverse weather condition. The composite materials used for airframe construction, and all the software driven processor based electronics need to be protected from lightning strikes. Lightning protection schemes have been developed based on high-voltage and high-current tests in the Lightning Test Facility set up at Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS).

well i really am amazed at this,,:what:
bro airframe is not 4 or 5 or 25 generation but the claimes are also not made for each and every component seprately.
the claims are quite clear by both these companies and both are true, just because LCA is indian we cannot take the truth as a false statement.
LCA uses highest amount of composities in 4 generation planes,
EF uses more composities but is not compareable to LCA as it is 4.75 generation plane,,
i hope you get it now!!
we must have argued if they said it to use highest percentage of composities in the world, for fourht generation league, it is true.

regards!

anyhow it is not of much of a problem unless it starts flying,,,
it is of no harm unless it is airborne and the acheivement seem to be a few years way,,, ;)

They don't believe this generation thing. They call it world's first "Swing Role Fighter" ... Now tell me what that means?

Swing role" is a relatively new term and as far as I can remember it's use goes back to the Bosnian NATO campaign, but likely as far back as the Gulf War. It implies an aircraft that can undertake more than one role simultaneously in a single mission. I've always thought "swing role" more a term of fashion and fad than of true descriptive value. Examples of swing roles might be the F/A-18s in the Balkans that are carrying both Mk 82 500 lb bombs as well as air-to-air weapons like AAMRAM/Sparrow, etc. They can fly CAP, and when called upon, can deliver air-to-ground ordinance in a pinch.

The use and emphasis of "swing role" in the marketing of the Eurofighter Typhoon personally is a gimmick rather than anything of substance. There are a lot of aircraft that operated in a swing role long before the Typhoon was even conceived, from the F-16s/F-18s and even the F-15Es of recently, all the way back to Vietnam when F-4s carried Sidewinders and Sparrows as an anti-air loadout along with the 6 500 lb Mk 82 bombs underwing. Chuck yer bombs on some obsucre jungle target and then go chase MiGs. It's only recently that "swing role" was coined to make everyone think there's new technology and advances to be had on the latest fighter aircraft.

So means it is just another term for Multirole fighter. Then again who is using more composite carbon material?

Well, My personal openion is LCA Tejas, Coz it uses 45 % composite by weight and 90 % by surface.... :smitten:

See, I never said its mine, And Moreover... See the timings , If I had to fool everyone thats its mine, I would not have supplied it within 4 minutes... And Yes, Its my fault that I never gave link, whats there to be ashamed of?

And you never told that it is NOT your's or you never told that it is SomeOneElse's

It still contains terms like "...as far as I can remember..." and you posted with out reference which was originally used by someone else in some other forum and still you are asking what is to be ashamed of.
