Will India ever be a "real" super-power?

Not until China,Russia and Pakistan are here.... A real superpower means that India would have an upper hand on the entire Asian region, starting from Russia to Australia. What are the odds of that happening - Next to zero !

The odds are the same for China.

China doesn't want to become a superpower, it just wants to become the biggest bank deposit in human history.

Tomorrow's power structure is going to be 'multi-polar', by 2050.

1: US
2: China
3: EU
4: Russia
5: SCO - Shanghai Cooperation Organization
6: NATO

2: India
3: Pakistan
4: Iran
5: Brazil

2: Israel
3: S.Africa
4: Nigeria
5: Poland
6: Bangladesh

Any source for this list?

India just need to make more movies and it will be more convincing.

The question about India is not whether India can be a superpower. But once India is again divided into many pieces like how it was before Britain united it, which piece will be the most powerful.

Leaking gallbladder again. Stinking much!

India already ship its excess population to others. Remittance is the #1 Indian source of economy.

Like you were shipped out as excess baggage?

Probably because you were second in line and so had to be scraped off in the womb!

You think the three belong in the same sentence? ;)

Pakistan is effectively just a client state of China (among others). That is a fate you chose...

And India and Pakistan are very different countries as well. There is no comparison of either our current standing or our potential.

Its my list.

@Vinod2070

You have conveniently disregarded my earlier statement. India can't be a REAL superpower when other nations which it 'cant establish hegemonic control' upon exist. Those nations don't have to be superpowers themselves, they just have to be strong enough to deny any Indian hegemony from being established,is it it too hard to comprehend?

@Aeronaut , India may or may not become a "real" superpower.

But when I read your delusions of grandeur of trying to tie your nation's pallu to the coattails of India and China in the same breath (regional power - really?!!!! :)), I have to ask the more pertinent and relevant question in the current context.

Will Pakistan survive dismemberment as a nation state over the next 5 years?

In the Indian's eyes they are already a superpower.

(Good to see you back btw.)

If I remember correctly no India ever claimed we will be super power. I think this term is used by others. First, about can India be a super power? Yes possible but with lot of ifs. Will that happen soon? not in next 50 years. So given that it is something not going to happen in next 50 years, I do not know why we keep discussing it.
Now about reasons listed in Article, I find them incorrect.
a) We inherited disputes, we are not adding disputes. In fact we play by the rule.
b) PAN card thing is so untrue, the person who has written it has no idea about it.Yes, our bureaucracy sucks but things will improve for sure.

The Indian 2030 super power movie "super" will disagree with you. Is super power movie a new genre in Ballywood?

As long as we have a buzzing red button able to turn Hindustan into a radioactive catchment area - yes.

There are nations that USA can't establish hegemonic control over. Nations like even Cuba, Venezuela and Vietnam...

There are nations that China can't establish hegemonic control over.

Same goes for every other country and entity that you mentioned.

Whether India become a Superpower or not will have very little to do with Pakistan. You will be hardly a factor...

Its good that our enemy is complacent, gives me comfort.

Your enemy is within.

You only seek comfort and escape...

There is a lot of wishful thinking by our dear Pakistani friends that India won't become super power.

Any country have to work very hard to become superpower. Mentality of people should also change. I see a lots of positive things happening in India. We fought against corruption like nobody else has fight against corruption in recent time. There is a great revolution is going in India. People are becoming more and more aware of the weakness of ours as a society. Educated class has become very active. Castism and communalism is eroding very fast. Indian companies are fast emerging as global companies. There are lots of positive indication in the field of science and technology. Infrastructure developing very fast. Most Important of all is that Indians are getting more and more recolonization all over the world. Our relation and Partnership with other countries are improving very fast. Our massive softpower is now visible right form Europe to America and Africa to Australia. We are eradicating poverty at a phenomenal rate. Our education is Improving like anything. Our Engineer and Doctors are now considered as the best in the world. Most important of all perhaps is that our youth has a vision and willingness of hard work to achieve that. It is a matter of time before India can become a superpower. A good government can make it fast.

Those are islands that pose no threat to the US and the fact that the US has the ability to take them down as per their will. So they do have strategic hegemony should they choose to exercise it.

On the other hand, India is already contained in cold war terms by being the only nation on plant earth, surrounded by 2 nuclear powers - both hostile!

You can use your Indian logic and overlook this factor - be my guest.
