BJP chief claims English bad for India, triggers outrage

Regarding 'privilege to learn this Language', if you say, that's where India has to work, rather than working on National Language. We have push down our poverty level, which is currently affecting India's growth a lot!

Why not promote Hindi the same way as you're saying it for English?

The problem doesn't lie in Sanskrit or Hindi being the national language, the problem being some segment of the society refusing to adapt and learn a language. I can vouch, a large part of Tamil doesn't know Hindi, and even if they know, will be reluctant to use it.

trust me, most tamils will find it very difficult to learn a north Indian language. Its one thing for a bengali to learn hindi but entirely different for him to learn tamil.
Given a option would not a tamil learn English than hindi? Learning hindi is too much of an investment with little return for south Indians.

The script too is steeped in history. Why would anyone give that up? Won't happen. Too much chauvinism.

I know........... just wanted to post this to indicate people have been working on this interesting question and govt. funds such research.

You used the right term.........ROI (Return on Investment). End of the day its always about the path of least resistance.

I think Telugu is a derivative from Tamil language family, isn't? Pardon my ignorance if there is.

Its a dravidian language but its not mutually intelligible... there is some similarity between telugu and kannada it seems @neehar @jbgt90 can confirm

Because it'll create a controversy in the Southern states again as it has happened so many times in past.

And this language issue is quite prevelant in India. I have stayed in Northen as well as Southern States. As per my experience in Southern states people will say I don't know Hindi, if u speak in Hindi and if u speak in English in Northern, they say Hindi mein baat kar.

Not sure, if they really don't know the language and that's y say that or otherwise. But the way they say is not at all good. Bdw I won't generalize though, it's as per few experiences of mine. Well I think this language issue should not be prominent among the educated class and present generation youths, but still in current scenario, going for Hindi will be a difficult thing.

Therefore I think, first priority should be given to enhance the level of awareness and education among the people. That'll automatically bring english in the grip of common people and we don't even have to hurt anyone's language sentiment. This is how controversies can be avoided as well whereas better education will help in the growth of our country.

NASA to echo Sanskrit in space, website confirms its Mission Sanskrit

Very soon the traditional ‪Indian‬ language Sanskrit will be a part of the space, with the United States of America (USA) mulling to use it as computer language at NASA. After the refusal of the Indian Sanskrit scholars to help them acquire command over the language, ‪‎USA‬ has urged its young generation to learn Sanskrit.
