Electricity import from India a priority for Nawaz

Its a good move. This way Pakistanis won't have to go to office without socks.

India is as unreliable as a mood swinging teenage girl..
Such an important import will only last until your politicians throw their next tantrum against Pakistan or Shiv sena gets their next orders from Bhagwaan......

the only way forward is SOLAR POWER! followed by thermal power! and finally CUT DOWN LINE LOSSES(due to kundaaa system)!!!!

if these 3 things are done i assure you in no time we will have no loss to look at!

but privatisation will be the biggest blunder in the history of this nation! don't forget if USA can make a mistake with ENRON! then in pakistan corruption will destroy a private electrcity system!

what help. Stop being condescending. They want to buy electricity and we want to sell. They sell us cement and onion and other stuff. Its all business.

Not with neighbors. It's the rule in most stable regions. Like How the US will generally be courteous towards canada.

First of all we don't need to import power, we only need to solve the debt crisis and all our power issue will be zero in a months time.

How woudld your power issues be sorted out in "a months time"?? The issue is poor power infrastructure and, more worryingly, a lack of power generating capacity. Even with no debt crisis it would/will take Pakistan the best part of a decade to meet the power generation needs of today let alone those of the future. Power generation schemes are incredibly expensive- how do you propose Pakistan funds them? Construction of projects takes a LONG time too so how will all of Pakistan's woes be sorted out in 28 days?

2nd and the most is that India itself has shortage of electricity so how come they can sell it to us.?
NS has lost his mind, he needs mental care.

The point is states geographically close to Pakistan like Gujarat and Punjab produce significant power surpluses which could quite easily be sold to Pakistan but, like I said, the window for this is only ~2 years as by 2014 India's full-scale National Grid will be up and running meaning the surpluses of the likes of Gujarat and Punjab will be sent to the Southern states of India.

You cannot fathom the amount and severity of the barriers to switching to solar.

The simplest problem is that of economics. The current yearly global electricity consumption is 19.4 trillion kWh. To produce that much electricity via solar power, you need an initial capital investment of $37.5 trillion if you exclusively use photovoltaics(what you call solar cells/panels) or $20 trillion if you use Solar thermal. There simply isn't enough money in the world for that. If, by some freak miracle, the money suddenly pops up out of thin air tomorrow, it still won't be feasible since the science just isn't there yet.

The main solar hotspots are in countries that don't have the money or don't need solar(Libya, Saudi Arabia, Central Africa, India), the only exceptions being the US and Australia although a case can be made for them not needing it. The technology is evolving rapidly and the costs are going down massively but it'll be another 30 years before we can even start talking about replacing conventional power wholesale with Solar(or wind for that matter).

India must export but charge a very high premium for this, otherwise they are free to import from somewhere else.

India must charge a price that translates to a minimum of 25 Indian rupees for every unit.

Take it or leave it, neighbors.

I m saying this because i know the installed capacity is 21000MW and at present we need maximum of 15000MW. But we are only generating 9000MW because we have a circular debt issue of 600billion Rs. We are not able to pay for the fuel, so no power generation, only thing needs to be done here is solve this circular debt issue and you will be generating more than your demand. But problem is corruption and no one is able to solve it, public sector and provincial govts are the biggest defaulters. they need to pay to get electricity.

Why wouldn't we sell?

Its pure business.

We will sell, provided you have the money in your banks, otherwise you can go to your all weather friend whose premier Li Limpin or Lin Jimpin (whatever his name is) will be visiting your country in 2/3 days time.
