I think it was a good move by govt, they allowed people to vent their anger for 1 day so that things can go normal afterwards.
They should keep old buses and cars ready for such event (along with large number of american and israeli flag) which can be burnt. At least nobody will die.

Most of them seem to be teenagers. Due to the rabble rousing and rants of extremist mullahs, these youngsters have have lost their childhood. This is the face of the next generation and the future of Pakistan. If immediate action is not taken to stem this radicalism in the bud, it will be too late.

And finally, someone should ask these mobsters what have they achieved? Pakistan lost a whopping Rs 73 billion in damaged property. But the maker of the film and his cohorts must be having the last laugh over a glass of beer because this one went right according to script!

They were betting on controlling crowd by isolating them. If it was business as usual, a passerby or school children may get hurn by tear gas or police action.

They also tried to put a positive spin on it by calling it a day of love, but even they know (rahman malik heard saying) the real reason behind holilday.
I still think it is a very smart move. A curfew or severe clampdown would have backfired.
