IAF bans beards for muslims

but isn't it a hindrance in movement to have a beard as big as Mr mullah. anyways i don't see anybody from I.A.F ( or any other air force) will object to it as the pilots who operate such prestigious birds, for them the first religion is their country. so it wont make much of difference nobody will object to it.

In Islam, it added, keeping a beard is not compulsory. “It is submitted that all Muslims do not keep a beard. The practice of growing and keeping beard is optional and sporting a beard is not universally recognised in the religion of Islam.”

Beard is not required in Islam like in Sikhism. I dont see any issue with this.
Who cares? Its a secular country there should be one law for all!

PAF disallows AF pilots to keep beards as it interferes with the mask and related equipment. But thats for safety precautions. Does IAF allow Sikh bearded AF pilots?

Indians have been raping the notions of secularism since they decided to opt it as a marketing strategy in the world.

Yes but this is not about pilots, its for all AF personnel and its discriminatory against Muslims and gives permission to the Sikhs.

I think this is just a way to harass Muslims and IAF is just going to put itself under a lot of criticism for this move.

sir if that is the case then i think you are right, i personally wouldn't mind such thing but then again my personal opinion wont justify others belief. i remember how one Sikh brother was not allowed to wear his turban in France and then Indian government and media went against it and they had to change their law and allow Sikh turban in schools. if Sikh can wear turban for their belief so can Muslim. such small issues shouldn't be created because they can cause a division amoung people.

Centre supports IAF ban on Muslims with beard

New Delhi: The Centre has supported the Indian Air Force (IAF)'s decision to prohibit Muslim personnel from sporting beard. The government said the ban did not infringe upon the fundamental rights of people.

The government told the Supreme Court that the prohibition was imposed to maintain uniformity in the IAF and also for security reasons. "These policies are secular in character and have not been framed to infringe upon the freedom of Air Force personnel to practice any religion," the Centre said in response to a notice issued by the apex court in September last year.

An IAF corporal, Mohammed Zubair, had challenged the IAF authorities "confidential order" issued on February 24 2003, prohibiting Muslim personnel from sporting beards. Zubair said the rule impinged on his fundamental right to follow his religion that makes beard mandatory. But, the government said its policy would not allow anyone in the armed forces to be different from his colleagues in the name of faith. ( Remember, only Sikhs are allowed to look different from others due to some mysterious reasons )

Seeking dismissal of the petition, the Centre said the ban would ensure that IAF personnel are known by their work and not religion. "The Air Force is a secular force where every religion is equal," the Centre said, adding that the prohibition was imposed after comprehensive deliberations. Delhi high court had earlier rejected Zubair's plea.
When asked by the court if the Quran made it compulsory for a Muslim to keep beard, Zubair's counsel Rajeev Dhawan replied in the positive.

uh just out of curiosity how do the Sikhs manage then?do they also cut off their beards?

No, they are allowed to keep beard as an exception in the "secular organization" of "secular country"........

Correct me if I am wrong but I think this rule would be for all Non-Sikhs who have no religious reasons to be forced to keep a beard.

If yes, then it is a non-issue.

Why should it be a issue in IAF if the same rules are applicable in PAF!

Seems a lot of hypocrisy and another reason for people who don't like secularism to beat it some more.

The same rules in Pakistan are for "safety precautions" and discriminatory against Muslims in India!!!!! Does it get more hypocritical!

The apt comparison in this case would be with Hindus and other religions and not Sikhs who have religious reasons for not cutting their hair.

Tell me, if some Sikhs want to join the PAF tomorrow, what would be PAF's policy in that case? Think and you may well get your answer.

Because PAF does not make exceptions. There are some real hypocrites around here, but they're not the PAF.:disagree:

^^ The only exception is for Sikhs who have a religious obligation to not cut hair.

It should be obvious to all who don't have big blinkers on!

Why do you have an exception in Pakistan for non-Muslims to consume alcohol? Is that hypocrisy or allowing them their freedom?

In this case it is honoring the religious practices of one of India's great communities.

For all those who wanted to know why Sikhs are allowed and not Muslims not allowed its coz if your are baptized Sikh then u have to follow 5 k's which
are Kesh(hair),Kara(iron bangle),kacha(underwear),Kirpan (strapped sword),Kanga (wooden comb),these are all the 5 K which make true Sikh so there is no discrimination against Muslim brothers as u know its not compulsory in your faith to have beard and also all the Sikhs in army are told to tied their beards u r not allowed keep it open so there is no discrimination against any religious sentiment of someone.

heh heh,

is it mandatory for muslims to keep beards? NO

is it mandatory for sikhs to keep beards (rather never cut it) YES

there's ur answer. some majhabi hindus would like to wear safron clothes and keep long hair in airforce, but can that be allowed? of course not. why? because its not mandatoty.

so all those who want to bash our secularism, have fun, we do not expect u to understand, and we also don't believe ur so called 'concern' for indian minorities is genuine :)
