Getting my first real car. What do you think? Any advice on good used reliable cheap cars?

From my experience the old galants were prone to breaking down often back then, and these are used. Of course I'm talking about their ME variants.

You can find several more cost effective, reliable Toyotas in this class of car. Consider a Camry or if you want to go higher, then an Aurion (which might not be in the US, basically a Camry with a lot of works).

wouldnt cough up that much for a '03 model man, its market value is at best $4000..for $12000 you can get pretty much a new lancer DE with like barely 10,000 clicks

You may also want to look at leasing a car. A friend of mine recently leased a corolla for $165 a month for 3 years. If you are ok with parting that much a month you will have a brand new car with warranty.

Leasing a car is a horrible idea, it comes with a load of restrictions and you may have to pay for the damage if any when the lease expires. Buying a used car is always a good option, but not too used one. If you want peace of mind, even if you pay a little more, CarMax is a good option to shop around and stick to the Toyotas and Hondas.

A bit much for a car that old, not like it's a BMW

my advice would be to go for say a Honda civic
u can get a 2005 model with less than 75000 miles for under 9000 USD

infact i recently sold my 2005 corolla G after 75000 miles for something like 7500 USD ie Rs 340000

infact , out of the cars that u have posted
the 2003 Eclipse seems to be the best deal

and i would recomend u to stay away from the Lexas
the car has like 136000 miles on it and is 11 yrs old
no matter how good the car seems from outside , it will demand heavy mentainence and will not give u more than 18 miles per gallon
knowing the sparepart prices for a lexus , u could actually end up spending like 2000 USD a yr to mentain it

I'm also planning to buy my first car next month (Ramadan season...lot of offers in ME)

I planned for a 2008 model second hand car, checked Civic & Tiida, but did not find a good worth my value. So going for a new one.

Short lists are Corolla, Tiida & Altima( if a corolla full option costs as much as a middle level Altima, then why not?)
