Sir,

Have manners---Azadpakistan is an extremely senior member.

And just because they got paid---and you will never know if they got paid or it was a grant---so no reason to insult the poster---.

And if you did not know---we wanted to pay for a lots of things and the west said---take a hike---

we need to have age showing for members here.. this automatically puts in a level of respect

Terminal phase thrusters should help it deal more effectively with targets such as ballistic missiles or the Brahmos Missile in its high altitude cruise phase. At 160 Km this missile would also out range any air defense missile, such as the Barak 8 in the Indian navy. And at 32 missiles each, the Type 054A/P would carry the same number of long range air defense as an Indian destroyer twice its tonnage.

Btw, how much does this missile weigh? What are the prospects of it being turned into an A2A missile, or at least some of its technologies applied to the PL-15 to improve it, should the Indians acquire the Aim-120D or a further development of the Meteor and hope to put range the PAF in BVR combat?

Barak-8ER is still under development. HQ-16FE's 160 km range is actually very impressive. But will have to see when the naval version (HHQ-16FE) will appear and when first of the chinese ships will get this upgrade. PN may want to get this upgrade but i think it will take quite some time (years)

This would be significantly heavier for an AAM. LR SAMs are normally much heavier.

Secondly, IMO PAF will not be looking for any further range even if india gets Aim 120D. Missiles fired at their max range are easier to evade anyways. The opponent would have much more time to do evasive maneuvers and your missile will eventually lose its energy. Or the opponent can just go cold . Plus there are geographic limitations factoring in. Already scenario is becoming when aircrafts scramble from FOBs from both sides (assuming carrying PL-15 & Meteor) Theoretically they can be locking each other pretty soon.
Focus can be on more EW assets, capabilities to blind the opponent, Jammings and all that. These non-kintetic capabilities will be the decisive factor.

A longer range missile with terminal maneuverability via thrusters should increase the no escape zone. I have read some where the missile weighs 650 kg, which compared to the 200-230 kg PL-15 is a lot more. Hence why I think some technology can be applied to follow-on missile to the PL-15. Perhaps just adding a booster stage and lateral thrusters in the mid body of the final stage.

Something like one of the possible designs of the Aim-260.

You wont be outranging the IN and the Barak 8ER was actually tested on 22 March earlier this year. Also the DRDO is developing the XRSAM which will have a range of around 250 km against fighter jets and 350km against sea-skimming missiles. And its tech has been tested 3 times, the latest being on 8 April 2022. Plus Indian destroyers will now be carrying vl-srsam missiles. So you wont be outflanking the IN anytime soon

The Barak 8 ER has a 150 km range as reported by their promotional literature. But all the products being made by DRDO… we’ll let DRDO’s track record speak for itself.

350 km against sea skimmers :disagree:

Besides if PN needs longer range missiles the HHQ-9BE (280 km in its current version, with longer range HHQ-9 Variants currently only in Chinese services but maybe offered for export soon, should the need arise) will be ready on Type 052DE platforms, all real, tested and fielded platforms.
