WASHINGTON: Pakistan and the United States completed their security level talks in Washington on Wednesday, days before a scheduled meeting between their foreign policy chiefs is scheduled to be held in New York.

Inter-Services Intelligence Director-General (DG ISI) Lt-Gen Nadeem Anjum spent three days in Washington this week, meeting senior security officials, including US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and CIA Director William J. Burns.

Neither side disclosed the details of these meetings, but the talks are believed to have focused on bilateral security concerns and the situation in Afghanistan, as the US believes that Pakistan can help stabilise the war-torn country.

The last security level talks between the two countries were held in July 2021, when then-National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf met Mr Sullivan at White House. The Pakistani delegation had also included former ISI chief Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed.

Later, Mr Sullivan said in a tweet that their talks focused on ‘regional connectivity and security, and “the urgent need for a reduction in violence in Afghanistan.”

The current ISI chief’s visit followed an unprecedented deterioration in Pakistan-US ties, triggered by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claim that Washington conspired with opposition leaders to topple his government.

At a news briefing on Tuesday, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price rejected Mr. Khan’s claims as speculations and lies, adding that the United States will not let “lies get in the way” of its bilateral ties with Pakistan, a relationship, he stressed, the US values.

“We are not going to let propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation — lies — get in the way of any bilateral relationship we have, including with the bilateral relationship we have with Pakistan, one we value,” he said while responding to a question about Mr. Khan’s claims.

On March 27, days before his ouster, the former PM brandished a letter at a rally in Islamabad, claiming it contained evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” hatched to topple his government.

All three wings of the US administration - the White House, the Pentagon, and the State Department - have rejected the accusations, saying there’s no veracity to them.

During Tuesday’s briefing, Mr. Price was also asked about a call made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Pakistan’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari last week, during which the US official invited Bilawal to a United Nations food security summit on York in New on May 18.Mr. Price said that Mr Blinken and Mr Bhutto-Zardari also discussed the “ongoing engagement when it comes to our economic ties, trade and investment, climate, energy, health, and education.”

If airbases are given to NATO again, Pakistan will be in a real bad position. terrorism will return in our cities. There would be severe backlash from IEA & TTP. I hope we're not repeating this grave mistake.

Pakistan needs to completely focus its energy on economy and exports, and get cheaper Oil from neighbors (Iran/Russia) on urgent basis.
If they give basis to americans, and/or start another american war, it won't be wise to expect things going back to 2000s, rather it would be way more worse. Forget about ttp scum, common people will never accept the decision to reduce PA to mercenary force or hired gun. Whoever trying to test the hypothesis of an army fighting without having nation behind it, either lives in fools' paradise or is a sellout.

Its a strange time; the observations and logic conclude one thing (ye bik gai hai ...... ), the heart disagrees. As Ahmad Faraz said ;
میں جانتا ھوں کہ دنیا تجھے بدل دے گی
میں مانتا ھوں کہ ایسا نھیں پظاھر تو

Pakistan needs FTA and trade agreements with NATO countries. Can this relationship provide this for Pakistan? Pakistan US have have had a long relationship, why did they never get the trade?

Why was the CSF fund the only good thing to come out of this relationship and even that was withdrawn and Pakistan humiliated in the process.

It is not difficult for the yanks to give the go ahead for other friendly states to do more trade with Pakistan.

Before going to US this guy met nawaz shareef in London as per aniq naji son of nazeer naji. Later shareef called his party in London to discuss matters. Damn.
It was just two hours stay. Meeting Nawaz was just a rumor which has been denied by PmLn sources.

These incompetent scumbags have no intention of helping the country or the poor citizens. He just went their to give report of the regime change operation. Maybe will also collect documents of properties the Americans gifted to certain "leaders".

Do you really think we don't export much because we lack access to markets? Not correct. We could compete in textile, we did, with some effort of government during covid. I heard Prof. Ishfaq saying chinese literally make fun of us that we should produce anything that they can put in their market. We are agri economy and chinese have huge food market. Do we have capacity to cater for that?

Problem is slavery mind set. We are kept crippled by foreign stooges making all power centers hostage since long. None of the government really tried to establish manufacturing capacity. It was not negligence, rather deliberate. We are made to believe we are only good for CSF, and that we are on ventilators, we are beggers and that beggers can't be choosers. Gora sahab ke desi munshi ki dukan kaisay chalay gi aggar ghulami ni chalay gi. With this mindset, you can't think of exporting and standing on your own feet. Never.

Because from Pakistan side, the priority is not FTA or trade or anything that benefits the country, instead the generals and politicians demand personal benefits, properties in US, green card for them and their offspring.

Let the visas start flowing as they likely will and green card applications start processing faster - all will be forgiven

It has probably never been that simple, nor probably will it ever be. The contortions from both sides are pretty convoluted.

Good, smart move by the GoP to keep all options on the table. No issues whatsoever with maintaining contacts and having discussions with the Americans. Engagement is always a plus and so is pragmatism.

I have no doubt saner counsel will prevail from both sides, as it almost always does, for longer term mutual goals, despite localized or temporary setbacks.

Even Bengalis think IK is a leader of Muslims... @UKBengali @HRK @Areesh @Path-Finder
I met many Iraqis, Somali and even Indian Muslims and all were incredible saddened by what happened.

sadly Pakistani 'quom' doesn't realise that there is a world observing Pakistan. it has a fixed eye on the country but as always Pakistani outlook doesn't go beyond the boundary of their village.
