WASHINGTON: Pakistan and the United States completed their security level talks in Washington on Wednesday, days before a scheduled meeting between their foreign policy chiefs is scheduled to be held in New York.

Inter-Services Intelligence Director-General (DG ISI) Lt-Gen Nadeem Anjum spent three days in Washington this week, meeting senior security officials, including US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and CIA Director William J. Burns.

Neither side disclosed the details of these meetings, but the talks are believed to have focused on bilateral security concerns and the situation in Afghanistan, as the US believes that Pakistan can help stabilise the war-torn country.

The last security level talks between the two countries were held in July 2021, when then-National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf met Mr Sullivan at White House. The Pakistani delegation had also included former ISI chief Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed.

Later, Mr Sullivan said in a tweet that their talks focused on ‘regional connectivity and security, and “the urgent need for a reduction in violence in Afghanistan.”

The current ISI chief’s visit followed an unprecedented deterioration in Pakistan-US ties, triggered by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claim that Washington conspired with opposition leaders to topple his government.

At a news briefing on Tuesday, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price rejected Mr. Khan’s claims as speculations and lies, adding that the United States will not let “lies get in the way” of its bilateral ties with Pakistan, a relationship, he stressed, the US values.

“We are not going to let propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation — lies — get in the way of any bilateral relationship we have, including with the bilateral relationship we have with Pakistan, one we value,” he said while responding to a question about Mr. Khan’s claims.

On March 27, days before his ouster, the former PM brandished a letter at a rally in Islamabad, claiming it contained evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” hatched to topple his government.

All three wings of the US administration - the White House, the Pentagon, and the State Department - have rejected the accusations, saying there’s no veracity to them.

During Tuesday’s briefing, Mr. Price was also asked about a call made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Pakistan’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari last week, during which the US official invited Bilawal to a United Nations food security summit on York in New on May 18.Mr. Price said that Mr Blinken and Mr Bhutto-Zardari also discussed the “ongoing engagement when it comes to our economic ties, trade and investment, climate, energy, health, and education.”

Barray hi sastay hain humaray neutral generals.

Amreeka Bahadur is on track to provide Ukraine a total of $78 billion over the course of a few weeks and our holy cows lay down in prostration over a few billion loan which has to be paid back with interest.

Gunah-e-bay lazzat...

Agar ghulami hi karni hai tu kuch barri qeemat hi lagwa lo...

If airbases are given to NATO again, Pakistan will be in a real bad position. terrorism will return in our cities. There would be severe backlash from IEA & TTP. I hope we're not repeating this grave mistake.

Pakistan needs to completely focus its energy on economy and exports, and get cheaper Oil from neighbors (Iran/Russia) on urgent basis.
i think the likes of ttp etc will find facilatotrs beyond their ethnicities and local regions. unfortunately maray fauji, general kara ayaashi.

I think the best IK should do is to insure a professional Chief takes over the reigns of the army and devise a methodology of choice of subsequent chiefs and put this problem to rest once and for all. The Polity has no role in deciding who should be army chief as the army has no role in Politics.

Vcheng.
I think the paths of the 2 have moved on and I think there is little the US will do to incorporate Pakistan's concerns in its calculus for its designs in the region. It is no longer a 2 way street. Pakistan on the other hand needs to be a little bit more diplomatic, as you don't wag your rear end in front of a Hungry tiger not expecting it to bite. The last experience of cooperation with the US has cost enough for Pakistan not to want any more "Cooperation". However, the norms of diplomacy need to be maintained.
I dont know what your assessment will be about how the US will view the situation if IK comes back into power. Will it want to engage Pakistan again or will it continue to ignore the polity while engaging the military? I would appreciate a detailed response from you.

When it comes to our national interest no other country should call the shorts. Period.

What is happening now is our sovereignty our national interests are being compromised on. The reason why we got to this point is be because there are compromised people/assets at powerful positions who needed compromised assets to compromise on the integrity, interests and sovereignty and hence repeated NRO is done and a patriotic, prideful, nationalistic leader is sent home.

This is why we are not a sovereign country when the very people entrusted with this responsibility are traitors.

Without the presence of such moles no country can dictate a nuclear armed 220m country who has strong allies like China into submission and micromanage it.

A thorough cleansing is required, the condoms that are being used again and again by cleansing with NRO should cease to exist, otherwise this country will cease to exist.

Diplomacy by definition is done on things that can be negotiated on, give and take happens when both parties gain. To bully and rape is not diplomacy.

Coming to your post sir, US interests in the region are clear, it is planning to take on China and in South Asia it wants to prop us Indian hegemony. Afghanistan is more for keeping its eyes and ears in the region and for that reason Pakistan is used. None of it fits in what we call our interest. Some people though we have understood that point.

This goes for another 2 months and Pakistan will become Sri Lanka.

Seems that’s what the US wants.

Is there a possibility Bajwa and co. might have been conned by the US? 😱

Thank you for your post. Our sovereign interests are linked in part to our weak economic situation and a long term habit of living beyond our means. This makes for a situation where we are constantly using the begging bowl from every one and anyone who will lend an ear. When you get money you lose your integrity. The IMF is simply another instrument of the West to keep the developing nations enslaved. This allows other nations to dictate your policy and administrative decisions.
To gain legitimacy your own people are utilized . Where Pakistan is today is because of these 2 factors in some proportional combination.
Independence will require hard decisions and austerity both of which are uncivil for our ruling elites. So we cannot for instance ration petrol while ensuring the transport system gets provided with Diesel along with other amenities so that prices should not increase.
There will be other steps required for the long term which will mean a bit of hard time for the public. If the public is motivated we can make it through to stand on our own feet in about a decade or so. So we need stable governance for this period.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pakistan is going to become Egypt! if you know what I mean!!
I think it will; this is how Morsi was stood up and let to rot and die at the hands of Pharoanic Gloroious Armed Forces of Egypt.

However, I dont think we will see KSA/GCC fund Pak like they did Pharoah Sisi - after all they have an arab who can provide cheap labour and playground for the rich.

But then geopolitics can make very strange bedfellows.

India is not safe with a destabilized Pakistan that had nuclear warheads scattered all over the country. The US wont want that and India surely does not

Oh he should grow moustaches he looks feminine like that and Anjum name is kinda girly on the serious note he should pay attention to the turmoil in Pakistan caused by them.

The IMF is simply another instrument of the West to keep the developing nations enslaved. This allows otber nations to dictate your policy and administrative decisions.

Incorrect. IMF is an organization that by charter must help its members balance their books when asked, and according to sound financial principles. Joining it as a member is not forced upon anyone, nor is asking for a bailout. Both are choices made by any country. Demonizing the IMF is dishonest. Pakistan has always had the choice to leave the organization and to not ask for bailouts.

That pappu face is too good for a spy chief of a agency responsible for defeating two super powers.
Another fallacy of the country - using features and looks to judge competence.

Let the visas start flowing as they likely will and green card applications start processing faster - all will be forgiven

Good, smart move by the GoP to keep all options on the table. No issues whatsoever with maintaining contacts and having discussions with the Americans. Engagement is always a plus and so is pragmatism.
