China, Isolated From the World, Is Now the Last Major Country Still Pursuing a 'Zero COVID' Strategy

I know of a dozen friends/coworkers who has gotten COVID. All fully vaccinated. 3 of which has lost sense of taste/smell. 3 has lingering "mind fog". None of them required hospitalization so they all counted as mild cases. It is highly irresponsible for governments to open up without more study on effects of long COVID.

How long do you want to close? Until all public life is dead?

Ideally if the entire world closes for 4 weeks COVID would be over.

No it would not, since a large part of people get infected and are asymptomatic. It always starts again and again. Even cats and dogs can get infected and the retransmit it to people.

Beside that, we cant close hospitals, logistics for supermarkets, publich service, energy supply ect.

We have to live with it.

And it's not irresponsible to implement a lockdown every few months and disrupt lives, with no end in sight other than to wait for a miracle vaccine? If businesses go bust, will the government be "responsible" and bail them out? If workers lose jobs, will the government be "responsible" and feed their family and pay for their loans? If the government don't, are they then "irresponsible" too like you put it?

The UK have loosen all restrictions and I don't see their people petitioning to return to a lockdown because they can potentially lose their sense of taste/smell. They have reached a new normal, and the rest of the world is aspiring the same and is gradually moving towards the same direction.

If China wants to continue with zero-covid, fine, it's their own choice. But to frame the choices as responsible or irresponsible, superior or inferior "social structure and ideology", winner or loser from the virus; it's a very superficial and narrow-minded thinking.

4 weeks is enough for asymptomatic people to either clear the virus or develop symptoms. After 4 weeks test everyone and further isolate symptomatic people plus their contacts and pets. Of course essential services would stay open. Supermarket would close tho. We dont have to live with COVID. China has proven it.

My statement may be "narrow-minded", but it is based in data. Between China and the US, Compare COVID infection/death rates. Compare Covid economic impact. It is clear which choice is responsible and superior.

Virus can lie dormant for months or even years before they activate given the right condition. 4 weeks of no symptom doesn't mean the person won't be infectious in the near future.

Anyway, there are signs that even China is rethinking its 'zero-covid' stance.

Heh, another superficial thinking. Going by your logic, North Korea is the most "responsible and superior" since they have zero cases and there's zero impact on their economy.

They may not have covid-19 but they have plenty of viruses. Rhinovirus, adenovirus, other coronavirus, flu virus, all kinds of virus. Covid-19 is not the only virus around you know.

Yes. North Korea has done an exemplary job with it's Covid response if the data is true.

This is the beauty of having data. It allows you to make comparisons.

No, Covid has dormant time of at most 2weeks.

what makes you think we are still under lock down? public life is as normal as it gets, so is everything else. Strict measures only deployed at borders and customs. After all, PCR test kits and barbed wires are much cheaper compare to treating patients
China builds a 500 kilometer border wall in one month - YouTube

but I suppose the Zero case strategy can be too costly for countries that rely on international tourism, migrant workers or immigrants, so each country should take its own approach. It just happens to be the most cost effective approach for China

Supermarkets cant close, people have to eat.

Aside that China still has covid, it simply ignores it. The curve is mathematical impossible.
