China harasses more than 200 people ahead of Nobel ceremony

Yeah you wish. :azn:

Keep wishing, but here are the facts. China has NO active armed insurgencies. India has MANY armed insurgencies.

Kashmir insurgency, tribal Maoist insurgency, North-East insurgency, etc. The only one here going "fuzzzzz" here, is the Indian Union... not the CCP.

I would be very scared if a nuclear armed country in my neghbourhood goes 'fuzzz'.

If you don't like the numbers in that article, take it up with the Washington Times and the Pew Research Center, they were the ones who took the poll.

The numbers are not my concern, the genuineness of the opinion expressed when living in the shadow of the threat of retaliatory action from the state was. You argued that there is no fear of retaliation. The fact that the Chinese government could crack down so hard on perceived support to dissidents over something as trivial as a prize suggests that at least in the minds of those respondents , there exists the possibility of state retaliation over expressing views that might be deemed to show China in poor light. In any case the survey suggest that there exists no problems in Tibet or Xinjiang since they must have been part of the 98% who approved. Any surprise that such opinion polls are seen with scepticism elsewhere.

Interesting theory but I still don't see how it applies to an anonymous poll.

Anyway even if we take a significant margin of error, the approval rating is still miles ahead.

Plus, China has no active armed insurgencies. If people really were secretly angry, then why don't they start an insurgency like the ones in India?

Well, that would require some active help from neighbours since weapons don't grow on trees, either in India or in China.

Alright so who is helping your insurgents so easily, and where is the proof?

Bearing in mind that the Indian Government themselves clearly stated there was absolutely NO evidence of China helping the Maoists.

Maoists getting arms from China: Home Secretary

New Delhi: The government for the first time on Sunday said that the Maoists are getting arms from China, which is a "big supplier" of small weapons.

"Chinese are big smugglers... suppliers of small arms. I am sure that the Maoists also get them," Home Secretary G K Pillai said when asked if the Naxals were having links with China.

The Home Secretary said the government has no information that the Maoists have any links with China except getting arms. "I do not think so, except getting arms," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Pillai, however, did not elaborate whether the Maoists were getting arms from Chinese arms smugglers or official agencies.

Home Minister P Chidambaram had said last month that the Maoists are acquiring weapons through Bangladesh, Myanmar and possibly Nepal.

"We know now that the weapons are coming through Bangladesh and Myanmar and possibly Nepal. The border is very porous. The Indo-Nepal border is a very porous border." he had said.

The home secretary later clarified that he meant Chinese arms smugglers, a statement deliberately kept open for interpretation.

Exactly, Chidambaram clarified that the Maoists were NOT being supported by China.

A very cheeky move, keeping it deliberately vague before being forced to clarify it.

So back to the question, which "neighbour" is supporting insurgents in your country?

Actually it was the home Secretary, not Mr.Chidambaram & all he said was that the Maoist got their weapons from Chinese arms smugglers. Need to read between the lines here. The clarification, in such cases is usually a smoke screen when the point has already been made.

kashmiri insurgents supported by pakistan based elements(not going in to state or non-state, that's another thread)

maoists: self supported (extortion, drug trafficking), GOI has often clarified maoists do not have external state support.

how did the communist party get weapons to fight the nationalists?

if there is a conflict, weapons will find their way in. if there is not, even the best weapons salesman couldn't make you buy even 1 bullet.

US has been trying to destabilize china for 60 years, you think if they saw potential for an insurgency they wouldn't fund it? they actually did see potential for one (Falun Gong), funded it, now who even hears of it? No one even remembers them, and this is only 15 years after their first appearance.

As long as its Chinese citizens ,its an internal matter.

But china don't understand that they keep on poking their nose in our internal matter and do everything to harm India and Indians.

china even tries to shield terrorist organizations like LeT/JuD so that they can target India and its people.
