Below is a news from the daily New Age on September 26, 2010.

US WANTS BANGLADESH TO DEPLOY
TROOPS IN AFGHANISTAN
Diplomatic Correspondent

The United States wants that Bangladesh should deploy combat troops in Afghanistan to establish security and stability, according to a foreign ministry news release.

The US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard C. Holbrooke, placed the request when he called on foreign minister Dipu Moni at her hotel suite in New York on Thursday.

He sought for any kind of help like deploying combat troops・ providing economic and development assistance, and training for the law enforcement agencies to establish security and stability in Afghanistan, the news release said.

Dipu Moni assured him that Bangladesh would do whatever it can to help restore peace in South Asia, specially in Afghanistan.

Bangladesh has already offered to send teachers and doctors to Afghanistan, she said. The foreign minister also held a separate bilateral meeting with British undersecretary for foreign and commonwealth affairs Alistair Burt on Thursday.

I think its not a joke....Many analyst from long time are saying that to solve Afghanistan problem those MUSLIM countries should be involved which have no stake in Afghanistan.....Involving India is Pakisans objection, Pakistani troops ANA dont like them, NATO US Taliban dont like them and also many afghans as well....

If Muslim armies from countries like Bangladesh and Indonesia and Malaysia will come under teh flag of UN the taliban might not be that harsh on them.....A way forward can be seen this way...A way in which every one is a winner...

However UN flag is still missing here...

@mjnaushad, how come you have read my mind? You have posted the same opinion that I wanted to post. Thanks brother. I would like to add a few sentences only to support your opinion.

Troops only from the Muslim countries must go to Afghanistan, but under UNO banner only, and no western or non-Muslim UN Officers should be allowed to lead any of these units.

Countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia may be requested troops. Christian troops must leave Afghanistan under UNO supervision within a pre-determined time frame. Indian troops must not be allowed. Pakistan will certainly veto such a thing.

Even Talibans send their daughters to the schools established by the Bangladeshi NGO called BRAC. It has earned a good name for Bangladesh. So, BD troops will be welcome in Afghanistan.

A troop participation by BD will somehow neutralize Indian influence there. It will be a diplomatic victory for both BD and Pakistan. A pacified Afghanistan is a pre-requisite for Pakistan to make further economic development.

Even you know that does not make any sense, thats why you said 'somehow'!

You must realise that Indian influence, as you call it, does not exist in a vacuum, it exists because there are forces that represent anti india AS WELL AS anti afghan govt and anti northern alliance forces.

Also, its plain stupid to think the pakhtun dominated taliban will be welcoming the bengalis with open arms, thats plain wishful thinking. However its worth the try for the USA :)

USA wanted troops from Pakistan for iraq.... we refused.
Also we do have military presence in afgh... my father was deployed there in 2006 as an observer team leader under UNO.

I dont think BD will send combat troops in afghanistan so no prob with taliban either.

BD should be super quick to deploy their troops in Afghanistan.

Nice thinking!.

But don't you think Taliban will see Muslim nations having troops in Afghanistan as traitors for doing USA's bidding?

and make the same same mistake Pakistan did to root out the soviets...and we all know what happened to Pakistan ever since...not the best advice I'd say.

BTW what are the potential gains for BD in this?:what:

This must be a joke. For many reasons.

I can cite at least one reason to support your opinion that the call to BD by USA is a joke. It is that, it will lower the bad and undue influence of India in Afghanistan. When India is torturing its two Muslim countries, it is, at the same time is showing smiling face to the central asian Muslim countries, where India has no business.

If BD along with other Muslim countries, except Pakistan, participates, it will bring peace in the entire region. Once peace is re-established, the central asian region will be able to diversify its trade through Gowaddar Port in Pakistan. BD and even India can benefit from this. Now, you fully understand why it is such a big joke.

Are you serious ?:D

Breaking USSR was the greatest battle we ever won , there were consequences but we weren't alone responsible for them.

BD can get much needed US support in return.

During Pakistan time, out of all the people in the west Pakistan, Bangali troops were most close with the Pathan soldiers. Same will happen with the Afghan Pathans as well.
