Xiaomi Indonesia has reached the milestone of producing 10 million smartphones in its factory in Batam, Riau islands.

Xiaomi announced the company had achieved the figure since its official compliance with the local content regulation in February 2017 for its first locally-manufactured smartphone, Redmi 4A

“We are happy that Xiaomi devices have received a positive response from Indonesia’s customers. Globally, Indonesia is an important market,” Steven Shi, Xiaomi Indonesia country head and head of Southeast Asia, said in a statement received on Tuesday.

Xiaomi employs more than 1,000 workers in its Batam factory for daily operations, assembling, packaging and quality control.

Shi said Xiaomi would continue to offer innovations at affordable prices and fulfill market demand both for individuals and professionals.

“The achievement of 10 million smartphones that were manufactured locally proves that Xiaomi has a strong market in Indonesia,” he said.

Xiaomi operates 40 authorized Mi Stores across Indonesia, including Mi.com, and works in cooperation with a number of marketplaces — Lazada, Blibli, Shopee, JD.ID and Akulaku — for online sales. (bbn)

Thanks but no thanks. We have our own local phones (there are 11 Indonesian brands atm). Indonesia is a huge market for smartphone and our phones are getting better with time. I myself been using local phones for almost 5 years now. Great quality, never dissappoint me. When it's time for a new one I decided to stick with local brands. :-)

Xiaomi is expanding fast into the SEA market. In this, greenfield investment is very important. Localization is key.

Thanks to localization, everybody hates Coke, but still keeps drinking it.

Why don't you build a smartphone factory in Indonesia?
If there is a demand,we can certainly set up a factory.too soon yet maybe in 5 years. Vietnam makes 260 million smartphones per year. In 5 years maybe 300 million.Setting up a factory with 10 millions smartphones per year in Indonesia should not be a problem.

I think Indonesia need to open more special economy zone like Batam.

In Java island and the east part of Indonesia.
