Xiaomi's first batch of made-in-Vietnam smartphones has been delivered by manufacturer DBG Technology, according to Vietnam Express and Investvine.

According to the reports, DBG Technology, Foxconn, BYD Electronics, and Flex are Xiaomi's main partners in China and India.

Following China's lockdown in Shanghai this year, Xiaomi shifted part of its supply chain to Vietnam, where Xiaomi had the second-largest market share of smartphones at 20.6% in the first quarter this year, according to data from Counterpoint Research.

The reports said that the locally-made smartphones could shorten delivery time and lower the costs for Xiaomi shipping to Vietnam.

According to an IDC report last year, Vietnam saw demand for smartphones surge in the fourth quarter with the annual shipments rising by 12% to 15.9 million units. Vietnam is also expected to see the highest growth of the smartphone market this year in the Southeast Asia.

Local news outlet VIR reported that Xiaomi was the top smartphone vendor in Thailand and Malaysia last year, and its next target would be Vietnam with a revenue goal of US$800 million this year.

Data from Counterpoint Research showed that Xiaomi's market share in Vietnam rose from 12.2% in 2021 to 20.6% in first-quarter 2022, coming second to Samsung.
