WASHINGTON DC - Pakistan has been playing a double role in Afghanistan while dealing with the Taliban, alleged a veteran United States army colonel, Lawrence Sellin.

Sellin, who has served in Afghanistan, northern Iraq and a humanitarian mission of West Africa, wrote in The Daily Caller that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) provided arms and ammunition to Taliban fighters in October 2001, just after US bombing of Afghanistan began.

The then Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf held a meeting with ISI director Lt. Gen. Mahmod Ahmed and other top brass of the army, who argued that Pakistan should not help the United States at all in its war against the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

"Pakistan has continued for seventeen years. While accepting billions of dollars in military and economic aid, Pakistan has been slowly bleeding the US to death in Afghanistan through its support of the Taliban, Haqqani Network, said colonel (retd.) Sellin.

America and it's allies have lost around 4,000 soldiers and over 20,000 US and NATO soldiers have been injured in Afghanistan.

Shortly before his death in 2015, Lt. General Hamid Gul, the former head of Pakistan's ISI, a committed Islamist and known as the "godfather of the Taliban", explained Pakistan's strategy in Afghanistan in an Urdu television interview.

"One day, history will say the ISI drove the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan with the help of USA and another sentence will be recorded that says the ISI drove the USA out of Afghanistan with the help of the USA".

Pakistan is front line state on war against terrorism. We Lost 65+ billion dollars in this war. Taliban & alqaida is also theat for Pakistan. We killed them in thousands.
We lost our thousands of soldiers in this war.
Afganistan is our neighbor, Stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakisan.
Lawrence Sillen is talking wrong and speaking lie, they want to blame Pakistan for their failure in Afganistan.

Pakistan has lost a lot in WoT. No doubts. Imagine a scenario however revolting and hypothetic it sounds to your bias.

Have you heard of the goose that lays golden eggs. Pak has a pair of golden goose. One is the Taliban and the other is the US. Taliban in Pak's view gives it strategic and geopolitical depth against India and won't kill it. US is after al-kaida and Pak fed US goose with deputies of bin-Laden. But stopped short of giving them Osama. Do you see that both the narratives can coexist.

Yeah hamid gul created talibans and saudis and americans didn't do shit.

What a stupid guy this American general is.

Wish Americans learn to say the truth, own their failures and dont dump their defeats on other countries.

If USA does not want a political solution and it hurts its ego to talk to Taliban, what has Pakistan Army got to do with it, you f*cking liar?!!

He lost his mind and his ego wont let him accept that they lost war in afghanistan.
With all modren technology's they still cant come out of bases. They still staying in Afghanistan with dirty intentions.

Decision to waste money and man power in Afghan desert is USA's own choice we are focused on our own country a and have no interest in US / Russian angle

We seek to form great relation with all Asian or Euro Asian nations
Turkey , Iran , Russia , China , Whole Central Asia and many nations of world

Any terrorist activity from Afghan area into Pakistan will mean a tough response from Pakistan's side

The core problem with US policy in Afghanistan is the Afghans themselves. They are incapable of rule, incompetent in military operations, and corrupt to the bone. US has spent billions on attempts to build the capacity of the ANA only to see their soldiers surrender to the Taliban and sell their weapons to whoever wants to buy them. You only read the conclusion of the SIGAR reports confirms all this yet US persists in pursuing victory in Afghanistan, whatever that means.

In essence, the Afghans are a waste of time, money, and breath. They should be left to their own devices.

Trump realizes that Afghanistan is a lost cause and is looking for a way out. He wants to declare victory somehow and for him, it's bringing Taliban to the negotiating table and hammer out an agreement so the US can leave with honor.

Right...it's all good and jolly discussing possibilities...but when we discuss reality it's based on proof. Pakistan's loss of lives, financial losses, decade long war on terror can all be proven and backed up with cold hard data. In comparison all u find is some rants of ppl here and there saying Pakistan is playing a double game...where is the proof? Without proof it may as well be fiction.

Lawrence Sellin is a confused individual.

Here is Sellin's pointing out U.S. shortcoming in South Asia:

China is far out-performing the United States in applying the three instruments of power – diplomatic, economic, and military – which the President considers critical to the success of his strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia.
You would think his solution would to be to engage the region diplomatically and economically while improving military to military ties. Wrong. This is his solution:

...to maintain a balance of power by using strategic disruption... such tactics involve managing and, when necessary, exploiting the inherent conflicts in South Asia including state-to-state disputes, the Sunni-Shia divide and ethnic separatism.

Here is some more comedy from Sellin:

...support for the self-determination of secular Baloch entities would have a strategic impact on three areas of U.S. national interest: undermining Pakistan’s support for the Taliban and other Islamic extremist networks in Balochistan; inhibiting Chinese regional hegemony; and providing a foundation for regime change in Iran.

Where does he acquire these self-defeating arguments? The Haqqani Network, of course. What makes this comedy better is that he loves to tweet to PTM while listening to the Islamophobe Frank Gaffney. :partay: :partay: :partay:
