What's new

Pakistan aims for transformative $30-50b investment boost in agri sector

Army chief should be concerned about defence and internal security . let the elected representatives and bureaucracy handle agriculture/economy.
OR
If the army chief considers the elected representatives as useless and constitution as garbage then go ahead and rule Pakistan as a dictator.

Army chief and agriculture should ideally not be in a sentence...!
In Pakistan is is odd for Army chief to be involved in defence matters. He is a farmer, real estate mogul, engineer, political leader, economic genius....

Yo what the actual ****, is that real?

Someone please tell me that's no real. That's a legit criminal gang in uniform they aren't even working for the state

This actually has been pretty common in the area.

I knew someone from Okara (he was a Lt Col coincidentally).

And although we ourselves have land in Gujrat and Bhakkar area, we know people who were affected by this or knew those people.

If any farmer does not agree to give up land, the army (or their henchmen) simply encircle the land and cut you off completely. If you don't have your own tubewell, you are out of luck since you are now beholden to the water ways of neighboring land.

Pretty old tale.

Don't expect much.

Pakistanis are the most "weily kom" (nothing to do) who have politics running deep in their veins evident from the fact that they will discuss politics at every given opportunity to pass time and then sleep peacefully through the blame games on Government and now military showing they are not ready to take on responsibility for their own life or family or job or country.

Even on PDF, which is a defence forum, mostly politics is discussed, not defence, weapons, strategies, tactics, wars etc. Sonay pe sohaga yeh (on top of that), that learned members like mods and TTs have shown their confused state of mind. Titles like Is Pakistan Army not defending us ? and statements like I used to love armed forces but now i loathe them. Its ironic when learned members are this dumb. Take for example, who made MQM ? ISI. How many coups and martial laws has Pakistan seen ? Many. So these happened before these members were born or maybe after, but didn't they know already ? and if the Pakistan Military has become "evil" now (Big LOL), then the good and bad commanders keep coming and going, we have examples of RS and then some Chiefs of 90s and even before. If IK comes and open their eyes now, then lets wait for somebody else who will make them move their a$$ around, then somebody else will come who will thrash their a$$e$$ so they do something for Pakistan ? The Pakistani public is itself shameless with expertise in cursing and vulgarism. Don't expect much.
Hopefully the next Army Chief doesn't try to **** over Pakistan to try to get free money from the U.S. like Bajwa's Project Imran Khan did.

Basically the country was de-industrialized/canabalized over he last 50 years to serve the interests of elite capture.

They are helping to grow the Indian market so they can afford to buy more from them. Something China should replicate in BRI and Pakistan should convince investors is the why will happen when they do business in Pakistan.

PTI flag is the current expression of the aspirations of most of the Pakistani people, but it still comes after being a citizen of Pakistan.

Pakistan’s economic state is so obviously bad now, unlike in 2007, and that the window for results in smaller.
Elite capture is something we saw here. Our late Magafuli arrested these renegades and made them cough out all their ill gotten wealth.

Unfortunately, all army ghq think it is their god (sorry) given right to rule and suck the blood from the country like leaches.

What is needed is a revolution and line these bastards up.

What Erdogan did -- I commend him, he neutered the entire army GHQ in a single swipe. Look at Turkey - educational institutions are thriving, yes he is insane on economic policies but industries are on part with leading powers... where is Pakistan? still kissing the feet of Generals and appointing them to be chancelors of universities, agricultural institutions etc.

What rubbish. These 'O' level barely passed idiots - what do they know? they only know how to follow chain of command line sheeps.

Agriculture alone can't lift us out of poverty
We need industries - dumb faujis can't comprehend economics so they shouldn't try
When you have basic O level failed idiots running the show and fake degree holders and thieves, what do you expect.

entire plate must be wiped clean.

Every single time the voter preference and 100% democratic will of the people looks for the fastest way to go bankrupt in pakistan.

The Army is the only reason why Pakistan isn't worse off than it is currently.

Advise to the Chief and his Commanders.

Withdraw from every non defense ventures. Go back to the barracks.

Save yourself from self inflicted ishtimaai aabru rezi.

The Army businesses are the only ones propping up the country.

Go beg the CIA for money for your Prophet Imran Khan before making such a demand.

Man seriously, you’re so affixed to Imran Khan that its impacting your logical thinking.

Take your meds on time.

The army’s businesses can be done away with. They are not propping up Pakistan’s economy. Most of Pakistani tax receipts come from bloody civilians and related businesses.

The Fauji foundations are operating tax free.

As for CIA, the establishment was milking it quite well during the times of coalition support funds and $ for drone strikes. Sadly for the established that revenue stream is closed.

You think civilian rule will make Pakistan better, but I know better.

In Pakistan's entire existence, it has always performed worse economically under civilian rule.

Literally every single instance shows this.

This is because Pakistanis very clearly cannot rule themselves and will 100% push for bankrupting the country 100% of the time when civilians get the reigns of power all to themselves.

Well the Establishment has ruled directly half of Pakistan’s life and the remaining time there has been sort of a hybrid rule.

Why then Pakistan’s per capita stunted when compared to Bangladesh or India?

1977-1988 Pakistan was flushed with funds from US, same story during Musharraf’s time for CSF and $ for drone strike.

Why did Pakistan not sustain that growth post military era, which you say did very well?

Not denying Pakistan did well comparatively when there was hybrid rule, but the bar has been set too low.

All in all, Pakistan of today is a result of half of direct military rule, quarter hybrid rule and a quarter of a YoYo between hybrid and semi democracy.

And this is the Pakistan of today. Lagging behind Bangladesh. Lets not even talk about India now.

I'm simply saying that the reality is simply what it is.

Pakistan's foreign funders are tired of the near-constant total and abject failure of Pakistani economic planning and would like some of their money back.
