Malakand Was A Strategically Important Area On The North-West Frontier Province. The Malakand Fort Formed Part Of The Fortifications That Guarded The Road Through The Malakand Pass.

NWFP was created in 1901.

Previously it was Punjab as a province of sikh empire.

And prior to that it was part of Afghanistan.Before that it was a province of the Mughal Indian empire.

In 1 BC it was the capital of the Kanishka empire that occupied the area from the line of Tajikstan up to the line of Bengal
