JF-17, not F-16, used in air combat: report

We don't need it for copy the EW suite we have is better as proved in this aerial engagement. The Elta will help to understand in evading it in future.
Yes... at best we can have some hints in that direction, but if mig-21 bisons will be used again! I doubt.

What else will they use that is the only interceptors they have. I doubt India will bring mig-25 out if junk yards and if so 25s have even bigger RCS and they pop up like a building on radar.

You are right, they have no other interceptor, neither will they bring Su-30 near 100 k.m. to the border.
Only reliable a/c they have is mirage-2000, but would India be confident to undertake new adventure?... no.
I don't see any violation of PAK border in future, not any time soon.

Fine... it was just a quest, seeking facts.
I find it interesting that a seasoned fighter pilot who has over 3,000hrs on the F-16, who has been to Red Flag & flew that ACM on last years flypast would end up flying the JF-17. He was with the No. 9 Squadron (Griffins) and now most probably an Instructor in the No. 5 Squadron (Falcons). The patch (below) is the one he now wears.

It's common sense, India would never agree to AIM sale, if they are not assured of it's full control.
Assuming PAF would not go behind enemy lines (India) and use it against them. Its already been mentioned that PAF can use the F-16's to defend the sovereignty of Pakistan. (If) the IAF entered Pakistan Airspace than it would be fair game for the F-16's to engage them.

When I said it was my opinion, I meant it because like everyone on this forum - I don't have all the details/facts.

Do I believe a JF-17 can take out a Mig-21 (Bison)? - Absolutely
Do I believe a JF-17 (Block II) can hold its own against a Mirage-2000? - Perhaps
Do I believe a JF-17 (Block II) can engage in a dogfight engage/takeout a Su-30MKi? - ...maybe if it were a Block III

The patch (below) is the one he now wears.
Patch does not confirm anything. It's just the dress, with some history.
Not one but many pilots of F-16 had been converted to jF-17.
That fact is known from years ago, i don't understand why their's hardship in believing same today.

Dear, airwar is no more dog fight and it has even passed the simple BVR era.
As you have seen, Indians failed to have a lock on jF-17, while for our riders it was like a routine exercise.
There's too much story in this obvious FACT for the enthusiasts to bisect.
BTW, you need to study about mig-21 + bisons before you quote it.
Those were killer in Indo-US exercises, that's why Indians decided to play the bluff which US MAY believe.

He came to the wrong place to find him
At this point , i would say India is facing huge maintenance nightmare. It feels IAF half of the air inventory is not battle ready and there govt is not aware of that .That is the reason when Modi came to know he cry for Rafale. Shorts of parts and trained pilots. Thats for sure only Mirage 2000 has back up parts and weapons, that contract was renewed with France few years ago. Only Mig21 is in flying condition. I have doubts for SU30, because Russians are famous for ripoff once they signed the deals. Pakistan air force should compose of light and low maintenance strike fighters. SU30 failed to impress and shotdown by JF17 , now it is part of SU30 combat record for life.
thank you bro.

Many are bluff into the believe of Bars radar of Su-30MKI. Another thing is R-77 BVRAAM despite bragging to have very long shooting range is overstated and it's resistant jamming is not good. Wonder why China PL-12 missile is made to look more like AIM-120 than R-77. More or less tells u China think what is better.

Eight Indian fighters took on 24 Pakistani jets in unprecedented dogfight — media

According to the NDTV broadcaster, the Indian Air Force’s planes prevented the Pakistani fighters from delivering precision strikes against ground targets on India-controlled disputed Kashmir region

NEW DELHI, February 28. /TASS/. Eight fighter jets of the Indian Air Force took on 24 Pakistani jets in an unprecedented air combat over the India-controlled disputed Kashmir region, India’s NDTV television reported on Thursday.

According to the TV Channel, the Pakistani Air Force strike group included eight F-16s, four Mirage-3 aircraft and four Chinese-made JF-17 "Thunder" fighters. The other aircraft were escort fighters to protect the Pakistan strike formation from any retaliation.

"The large Pakistani attack formation was detected at 9.45 am, when they came within 10 km of the Line of Control," the TV Channel reported.

The Pakistani aircraft were intercepted by eight jets of the Indian Air Force, which included four Sukhoi Su-30MKIs, two upgraded Mirage 2000s and two MiG 21 planes, the TV Channel reported.

The Indian Air Force’s planes prevented the Pakistani fighters from delivering precision strikes against ground targets on the India-controlled territory of the disputed Kashmir region, the TV Channel said.

The details of the first massive air combat between the Indian and Pakistani fighters since the third Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 emerged as India waited for the release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman from Pakistan's captivity.

The wing commander was in pursuit of a Pakistani F-16 jet, which he shot down with an R-73 air-to-air missile.

"Both pilots were seen parachuting down on the Pakistani side of the Line of Control," the TV Channel said.

At that moment, an AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) struck his aircraft, after which Varthaman was forced to eject and landed onto the Pakistani side of the Line of Control, where he was captured, the TV Channel said.

The tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad heightened after an Indian paramilitary convoy was attacked in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14, which claimed the lives of 45 people. The Jaish-e-Mohammed group, which aims at separating Kashmir from India and bringing it under Pakistan’s control, claimed responsibility for the February 14 attack.

Last Tuesday, India delivered an air strike against the camp of that grouping in the Pakistan-controlled part of the Kashmir region. On Wednesday, the Pakistani Air Force retaliated by an air strike on Indian military installations. Both India and Pakistan claimed they had shot down each other’s aircraft during the dogfight.

The situation in Jammu and Kashmir, India’s sole state with the predominantly Muslim population, has remained tense for many years. In the India-controlled part, secessionist militant groupings are active. New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting terrorists. Pakistan rejects these accusations.
Bbuuuhhahahaha ..., true Bollywood script ... written by IAF ...

I heard he was credited with one kill by No. 9 squadron. Foreign reports or not....F-16s were used, and they flew more than JF-17s during that sortie. There were more Vipers launching from Sargodha during the time line.

Sargodha air base squadron don't operate in North please understand this. The area of engagement come under Northern Air command.

China operates su30 mki and know how to down it using jf17 so india has no advantage by using su30 as its all weakpoints are provided by china to us. Jf17 is future reliable jet

Well, China has much access to Western modern weapon inventory and they also have Russian top tech. So they have much better environment and crew to compare weapons side by side.

China is not more the backward of 70s-90s. People mindset need to change. China is country that build its own true global satellite position system and build supercomputer that is toe to toe with Americans. It somebody believes Russian who cannot even make a single 14nm chips processor but can build better fighter jet radar than China, needs to get their head check.

Off curse they are not going to accept any AESA radar without first testing it thoroughly in the field. Their feedback is being used to better the system for final integration in the 3rd block.

There were 12 block 2 JF-17 given to PAF in 2018 and they included AESA upgrade.

The tests were already done in China. These were deployment ungrade on block 2. Now it is going through field testing in real time
