What's new

FC-1 (JF-17) powered by WS-13 engine carries Taxi Trials

You can also say, the Su 30s of IAF have a better reliability record than PAFs F 16 with only 2 crashes, whereas 8 F16s crashed in the same timeframe:

PAF have faced embargo and during that time and PAF done very well

Hi, are you sure the time frame is the exact same, 1998+? The PAF got their first F-16s in 1982 and they would have significantly aged by 1998, when the Su-30s were starting to get inducted. Moreover they were embargoed from August 1990 onwards. Take care.

PAF never had 8 F16 crashes. One was a fraticide during combat with the Russians. One hit a wildboar while taking off. A few were canabilized during the embargo. There are rumours of one ending up in China. At the max, there were 1 or 2 crashes due to technical or pilot error issues.

According to Chinese media ,FC-1 (local Chinese name for JF-17) has recently carried out successful taxi trials powered by a Chinese made WS-13 engine ,currently first batch of 40 aircraft which will be supplied to Pakistan are powered by Russian Klimov RD-93B turbofans, while WS-13 has 10% greater thrust but is also having Quality issues with the turbine blades . Next batch of JF-17 which will be build in Pakistan will have this Chinese engine and same will be offered to export market , Chinese are already working on an improved engine which again will have further thrust

damn, tell me about the wild bore incident.....never heard bout it

Happened at Sargodha. Came on the the runway as the F16 was on its final roll for takeoff. The pilot ejected at zero altitude and was safe. After the incident the base went on sort of a controlled rampage, guns and side arms of every imaginable calibre were brought out and all wildboars within the base and in its vicinity were eliminated.

Wish they would do the same to E-9.. got a scare at a friends place night with Mr &Mrs Boar.. with extended family roaming around towards road.

too bad i missed out.....never hunted bore before

nothing a 12 gauge slug can't handle. I do remember a couple years back an F-7 went down due to bird strike.

Boar strike is a whole other thing. From what i know, Sargodha is famous for its ample supply of wild boars.

I think building a fence and some good hunting will be more cost effective than losing another $20-30m dollars aircraft :D

It also made an almighty bang that woke up the city too!

There were a lot of BBQs after that incident for the American staff stationed there at the time. :D

Hi,

Not to add insult to injury---but a typical reaction from my brethren----.

The guns should have come out and the base commander executed for negligence of duty---.

The running of wild boar across the runway was a common practise by the wild boars of sargodha----the base commander knew about the warnings beforehand---all the airt force staff in pak air force knew about the issue---.

A wire fence was reccomended alongwith the killing of the wild boars----but no---Allah Malik----nothing happens---sh-it happens---.

What an air force---gosh if it was a base commander at a russian air force base----he would have been in front of the firing squad and family sent to siberia---.
