The EMAL catapult still not finished?
Installation of catapult may or may not be completed but testings of catapult launching will continue for a long time well after the ship's commission in 2024 or 2025. (You can check USS Ford's catapult testings history).

They will remove the weather housing of the catapults when sea trials begin.

China always understated the new aircraft carrier tonnage. Despite state claim Fujian aircraft carrier is 80,000tons. It never claim its full or empty tonnage. When 075LHD leave drydock, state news paper claim its 20,000tons but end up we know its 50,000tons when its fully commission as state newspaper re adjust its tonnage.

Those slayer who take state news claiming as 80,000tons as some bible. are going to be disappointed. Very likely Fujian aircraft carrier is near 100,000 tons if fully loaded which is very close to Gerald Ford aircraft carrier.

Fujian is about 100,000 tonnes fully loaded which was acknowledged by the CGTN.

The reason of the "80,000 tonnes" understatement during the launch ceremony is because China didn't want to agitate the US.

Fujian is only 10 meters shorter than the Ford class, but its waterline draft and beam are both bigger than the Ford class.

CVN-78 weighed about 77,000 tonnes when being launched, and weighed 102,000 tonnes during the commission.

Fujian most likely weighed about 80,000 tonnes when being launched, and would weigh about 105,000 tonnes during the commission.

Another hint towards a first sea trial 🤔... Daguan class barracks ship no. 89 (?) was moved into the outfitting wharf berth of the Jiangnan Shipyard sitting now just behind the Type 003 aircraft carrier "Fujian".

The PLAN assigned 003 crew would probably need 3 to 4 months of training and orientation before they can put 003 out to sea for trial. Meanwhile in-basin trials similar to CV17 Shandong's may start sooner.

The first sea trial of CV17 was in May 2018. Smoke from engine was spotted in February 2018, and the barrack ship was at berth next to CV17 in January 2018.

CV17 was commissioned in December 2019.

And just as in "Indiana Jones 3" no X has ever marked a historically relevant place, PLAN has never based its events on historical dates so that it would be just a funny coincidence, if the PLAN's 76th anniversary on 23 April 2025 the "Fujian" would be officially commissioned. :azn:

I doubt it. In terms of dimension, 003 is still considerably smaller than Gerald Ford. It doesn't make logical sense for it to have the same displacement.

It is only 10 meters shorter in the bow section, while the rest criteria go to Fujian.

Gerald Ford: 317 * 41 * 12.5 * 1.025 * 0.65 = 108240 tonnes

Fujian: 306 * 41 * 13 * 1.025 * 0.65 = 108664 tonnes

These two ships go toe to toe in term of displacement.
