Chengdu J-20 5th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

Based on current production trajectories, China will eventually operate as many J-20s as India had Mig-21s, so there’s that.

How many operational J-20s right now, any idea? Very impressive how these things are being built at this incredible pace.

And what's your opinion on why they designed and built it without the need for a gun or cannon? Is there a specific doctrine or rules of engagement, so to speak as to the method of any type of combat that has been implemented so that there would never be the need to use guns? Or are they planning to eventually add one?

Perhaps they're procedure for any and all J-20 engagements would be strictly at BVR and never WVR. And if the latter is needed, then it would be the J-16's or J-10's duties?

Any explanation where is it from, is it official, PLAAF related and what's the meaning of the "18" on top?
It's from a website that does Squadron Patches.

I'm out right now, but I'll FWD the link once I get home.

And no clue about 18...

A gun will eventually be added but it is not prioritized right now. There will be 200 airframes by the end of the year.

Depending on the sources, anywhere from 150 to 250 at the moment.

Yeah, so basically just type for 'J-20' in the Search Bar.

They have Three J-20 Patches, but too many pages to search from, so the Search Bar helps a lot.

China should start exporting those in big numbers to the friendly countries.
