Would Nawaz Sharif be more assertive if he gets relected in 2018?

Do you think Civilian power will increase in PAK with successive elections?

There seem to be a new civil military rift between NS and PK army regarding Kashmir :

http://www.dawn.com/news/1288350/ex...ternational-isolation-civilians-tell-military

Also NS seem set to win a 2nd term in 2018 since he dominates your Punjab province. At least that kind of perception I get as an outsider. Don't get me wrong. Pakistanis definitely know better about their country.

Now if he win , he NO doubt would have more legitimacy and be more assertive. he looks up to Erdogan and AKP and longs for the kind of civilian dominance AKP has over turkish army. He also seem to be a very astute politician and is very cautious. With a consecutive second term and hopefully PAK economy picking up with CPEC , he and his party seem set to dominate.

Also other example shows that with successive elections , Army looses power to civilians. Eg. - Turkey , South Korea, Indoneshia, Brazil , Argentina etc etc. These countries all have complete civilian dominance over army.

SO what is the opinion of PDF pak members and general pakistani population as a whole on the possibly of PLM-N dominance over their army? How would the PAK army react? Don't get me wrong , I think both your Civilian gov and Army has PAK best interest at heart but they define that interest in different terms.

SO what would be PAK's policy in such scenario? Would there be a change in PAK kashmir policy? Would a civilian gov give up on Kashmir? As a muslim and well wisher of PAK I really hope NOT. What would general Pakistanis do if there is a change in Kashmir policy?

Discuss.

In this case he would probably end up like Bhutto. Remember Bhutto even had a private federal security force, but when the Khakiz kicked in not a single shot was heard -------

But don't you think , things have changed since 1977? There will be more international pressure , Trade & investment may be compromised and with US firmly divorcing PAK the Chinese would not want instability in PAK administration. They would want stable government. And with social media and free press and PML support base , do you think the situation is similar to 1977 ?

Btw I am not saying your NS is a bad guy. Its Pakistanis to judge. As i said I think both your Civilian gov and Army has PAK best interest at heart but they define that interest in different terms. Outside Enemies can easily take advantage of that.

Well it solely depends upon the situation, if he showed any sultan/sheikh symptoms in dealing with the military junta then no flight would take him to jaddah this time

System it flawed but should be given a fair chance... i m personally against any intervention at this time military or otherwise

Yes your system definitely needs reform but is NS up for it? I think your army should force fair electoral reform from behind to prevent possible single party dominance.

In Pakistan... Army is the strongest and most disciplined wing and it has its feet on the Govt.
Army would always be dominant as they have more confidence of the nation compared to a civil Govt and the threat that if Army takes over the throne no one would oppose as Turkish did ..

Most of the decisions that NS is compelled to take are due to Army.. raising Kashmir issue is one of them although he has his interests in India..and would never want to resent his friends there.

Kashmir would always be the first priority of any govt even if civilian or military because it's the first priority of Pakistan and we won't give up on it ever until we have it.

2018 elections will likely be NS's last. If he wins, he'll likely be more assertive, because he'll have nothing to political lose; if he loses the elections, well, it doesn't really matter.

N-league is unlikely to win the 2018 elections; PTI is going to win.

The army is the most pro US organisation within Pakistan, the US will be fine with them getting rid of Nawaz. The Chinese wouldn't care as long as their objectives aren't compromised, which they wouldn't be. The army would do things quickly and cleanly when the time would be right. Nobody would help Nawaz like in Turkey either because the public adores the army. Not to mention our army is a lot more brutal than Turkeys at suppressing uprisings.

I personally hope the army keeps control, and puts Nawaz in his place. He is good for the economy, but that's about it. He doesn't deserve too much power in my opinion, he's too friendly with India and rather selfish as the Panama leaks have shown.

The army is not pro-US at all.

The army is not pro-US at all.

Yes they are, they operate a lot of US equipment and America is their main choice of supplier. Not to mention they are the ones who authorise the US to launch drone strikes and let them raid Bin Laden's compound.

That would be only natural, that is what they would most likely want to do, more assertive and more harsh with the opposition, don't know if sharif brothers have changed much as compared to the past, but that is what the overall nature of N-league remains. As for the army, it doesn't effect them much in terms of setting straight the politicians if need be, the reason being that even do people elect them to rule, it's not like that they are dying in love for them, common people don't care for the politicians as such, they rather have a better relation with the army in that regard.
An ideal scenario would be , where sharif's take the federal govt but somehow loose provincial assembly of punjab to pti, and all of them, N-league , pti and army live in harmony for the better of Pakistan . . . . .. . . forever :D

Nawaz wont be eligible to run the elections and there is no one after him who could really bring the party together as i see it.Hamza is too inexperienced, Shahbaz is unwell ,Maryam is controversial and inexperienced and the other lackies are divided into groups.. So i dont see PMLN winning the next election , probably a weak coalition govt. of PTI with MQM PK , PSP PML-pagara and Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza

Nawaz had all the more reasons to be on the good side of the public.
but hes ruining every chance he gets.

I'm pretty sure IK will be more favourable now.
