KARACHI: With the participation of women leaders from at least four countries, the second International Women Leaders Summit is going to take place on January 29 with an objective to popularise life stories of global female icons and connect professional women across cultures and geographical boundaries, said Pakistan Society for Training and Development (PSTD) President Aamir Niazi.
Being held as part of the fifth Women in Business Conference (WIBCON) for professional women, the theme of the summit is to make women draw inspiration from global and Pakistani business leaders, which can help them overcome the stereotypical barriers that restrict their growth while maintaining work-life balance.
The summit will be organised by New World Concepts a corporate promotions company and PSTD, which is a non-profit organisation committed to the advancement of professional human resource development through organising training programmes and conferences.
Learning and networking opportunities provided by this summit will help professionals achieve excellence, said Niazi, who was speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday.
He also gave a detailed presentation on the history and role of PSTD, which is managed by an honorary board of governors, comprising leading executives from the countrys corporate sector.
Keynote international speakers include Nasra Hassan from Austria, who has worked for 25 years with the United Nations in peacekeeping, refugee and humanitarian affairs, social development, public information and communications; Gulsun Bilgehen, who is a senior member of Turkish parliament; and former fashion supermodel Bibi Russell from Bangladesh, who played a key role in reviving the Bangladeshi crafts industry through pioneering ethical fashion in the world.
Melanne Verveer, the US ambassador for global women issues, will participate in the conference via a video address.
Key local speakers include IBA Dean and Director Dr Ishrat Husain and Oscar-winning Pakistani film-maker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. Panel guests include first elected woman on the board of directors of the Islamabad Stock Exchange Ayla Majid.
The conference will be attended by professionals based in South Asia in general, as they face similar challenges in terms of culture, religion and gender biases, said New World Concepts CEO Yasmin Hyder.
