Western countries, not Pakistan, need to ‘do more’ in war against terrorism: Danish MP

By Akram Malik

ISLAMABAD Nov 27 (APP): Western countries, not Pakistan, need to ‘do more’ in the campaign against terrorism, said a Danish Muslim Member of Parliament Nadeem Farooque, saying they should help Islamabad surmount the daunting challenges, being faced by it as a result of this war.“We want our government to do more to help Pakistan,” he told a visiting delegation of Pakistani editors in the historic building of Danish Parliament in Copenhagen late Friday. He said about twenty five thousand Danish Pakistanis were doing very well in Denmark.

Nadeem Farooque, who will be visiting Pakistan this year, said, he had been discussing with his Danish peers many problems being confronted by Pakistan.
During his informal interaction with them, Nadeem said he had endeavoured to portray a broader picture of Pakistan. Pakistan has been playing a key role in fighting against terrorism with a staggering cost to its economy as Islamabad had lost the greatest number of its security forces and innocent civilians than any other country.
Danish MP said he apprised them of the peace-keeping role of Pakistani troops under the UN umbrella across the world as many Danish MPs were not aware of it.
Pakistan-Danish relations have started expanding recently as a result of a proactive approach by Danish ambassador Uffe Wolffhechel in Islamabad as he was pursuing a two-pronged strategy to strengthen these ties.
Copenhagen was providing Pakistan assistance to support its disaster-stricken areas and a new initiative had been taken to bridge the communication gap between the two countries - desirous of enhancing trade relations for mutual benefit, he added.
The establishment of Danish-Pakistan Business Club and the latest initiative by a Danish envoy here by launching a special programme which is billed as bridging partners, seemed to be a move in that direction.
When approached, similar sentiments were expressed by Pakistan’s envoy in Copenhagen Mrs Fauzia Abbas when she said surely Pakistan was keen to expand its trade ties with Denmark and would like to see more Danish investment for fighting the islands of poverty.
The thoughts of the newly-elected Danish Muslim Member of Parliament Nadeem were not different either as he hoped the new government which took power about two months back, would work to enhance a cooperative relationship with Islamabad.
Danish Pakistanis do have their expectations from Islamabad and have been waiting very long for the interior ministry to provide them the facility of a machine readable passport(MRP) which in any way is an international requirement by 2018.
Currently they have to travel all the way to Norway to get a MRP which cost them money and about two hours travel though Pakistani envoy through personal initiative had halved their travel to Norway as now they can collect their passport from Denmark instead of going to Norway. However this is a problem of Danish Pakistanis because wherever the journalists delegation went hey were confronted with this query.
Danish Pakistanis sought their intervention to persuade the interior ministry to remove their long-standing complaint.
When questioned Islamabad’s envoy in Denmark Mrs. Fauzia Abbas said she had already taken up this issue with the concerned authorities in Islamabad but was waiting for their action which good create a of goodwill among the Danish Pakistanis.
Another issue of concern to Danish Pakistanis is a denial to them the right of having dual nationalities but this problem can be resolved by the Danish Government through an amendment in their constitution because Islamabad had already given the right, keeping dual nationality to its nationals by many countries in the world. There seemed to be a realization of Pakistan’s vital geo-political location, particularly in the wake of long-simmering Afghan situation threatening regional peace and stability despite 10 years long war against terrorism which has not produced the desired results.
The global campaign against terrorism, fluid situation in Afghanistan and Islamabad’s vital role in fighting the war against terrorism, generated a lively discussion wherever the editors’ delegation went in Denmark.
Danes journalists and students were quite keen to know Pakistani viewpoint on what was happening in that part of the world. Denmark also part of International Security Assistance Force had lost 50 soldiers in Afghanistan where NATO forces and the US was engaged to eliminate al-Qaeda and Taliban.
But despite 10 years of using military option, there is no end in sight of this war of attrition. They asked some searching questions on how this campaign against terrorism was going to end and what would be the situation like- in post-2014 when bulk of the US forces would be withdrawn from Afghanistan.
Many of the editors shared their analysis of the complex and multi-dimensional situation and a few were of the opinion that unless an all-inclusive framework was not worked out by the US and all the stakeholders in Afghanistan, there was every possibility of Afghanistan sliding into another civil war as it did following Soviets withdrawal in 1989.

Now its realli the time for Pak Army or the nation to shoot down their some drones and some Helis if not all entering our airspace....that will realli be the great help in war against terror.....Yes Pakistan needs to do something practical now.......:smokin:
