Vaastu expert made Telangana government adviser
HYDERABAD: Telangana is all set to become a vaastu compliant state with an expert in the ancient art taking charge as an advisor to the government on Monday. Appointed by the vaastu believer chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, his trusted vaastu consultant Suddala Sudhakara Teja will assume charge as an 'advisor on architecture' to the government.
Apart from overseeing the vaastu compliance of government structures and prescribing remedial measures, Teja is also mandated to advise the government on issuing clearances to projects, notify the exact time of signing files and where should an officer sit during meetings. He will also decide on the seating arrangements during cabinet meetings and advise the CM on which direction he should face during conferences and key meetings.
"Vaastu is a time-tested branch of science, and by adopting it properly we can bring in efficiency to the system ensuring success. My job is to align the systems and process with the principles of vaastu so that the governance is effective and vibrant," Teja told TOI.
Attached to the ministry of roads and buildings (R&B), Teja has a responsibility to even ensure that roads in the state conform to the principles of vaastu sastra. Not just that, every gardens, lakebeds, riverfronts and government buildings will be subjected to course correction as per vaastu principles. "I will review the status of old projects and also look into the proposed ones before a final call is made," Teja added.
Banking on his domain expertise, the CM in fact wanted to nominate Teja as the official vaastu advisor to the government. But rules did not permit such a designation, so he has been appointed as the advisor to architecture after many rounds of deliberation. "The architect wing allocated to Telangana after the bifurcation is understaffed with only three assistant executive engineer rank officials. Hence, an advisor with architecture, building and planning experience is necessary and it advised that Suddala Sudhakar Teja be appointed as an advisor on payment of remuneration of Rs 75,000 per month with an official vehicle for his site inspections," R&B secretary Sunil Sharma said in the order.
The appointment has left officials in the R&B department fuming, since Teja's appointment comes at a time when the government has announced huge infrastructure projects across the state.
The vaastu expert will now oversee dealings in awarding contracts in the roads & buildings department which has suddenly become lucrative with huge projects, including upgradation of over 10,000 km long roads, construction of state highways, ring roads, skyways, grade separators in Hyderabad in the pipeline.
More importantly, the new secretariat complex planned at the Erragadda Chest Hospital site, and the skyscrapers proposed to be built around Hussainsagar project, are worth over Rs 50,000 crore.
Even the R&B minister Tummala Nageswara Rao is said to have been miffed as he has taken Teja's appointment as an encroachment upon his executive powers."The CM has appointed his trusted people as the advisors in the departments which are seen to be lucrative. These positions are extra-constitutional and have powers without responsibility. Moreover, these advisors tend to function as defacto ministers, leveraging their position superseding that of the minister. So, the officials and ministers are upset," said an official in the R&B department.
The CM appointed 10 advisors in various departments including irrigation, and urban development. And Teja' is eleventh of these appointments.
Nageswara Rao, however, said he was not worried with Teja's appointment."He is joining us to help in the governance and we must focus on extracting his maximum talent. And the best way is to cooperate with him since he has been appointed by the chief minister," added the minister.
