For the first time, unconfirmed reports are coming out that American ground forces struck a blow to ISIS on the ground, facing off near Al-Dolab, Iraq.
The U.S. ground forces allegedly came to the aid of tribal fighters and Iraqi Army troops who were engaging with ISIS 10km from the Ain Al-Assad base.
Sheikh Mahmud Nimrawi, a tribal leader in the area, was quoted as saying, “US Forces intervened because ISIS started to come near the base which they are stationed in, so out of self-defense, they responded.”
The report claimed that the base hosts about 100 “military advisers”, so it’s safe to say that ISIS would have been hit pretty hard if they came within their arcs.
F/A-18’s were apparently also overhead, which struck multiple times forcing ISIS to retreat after a two hour fight. The reports claim that many of the ISIS fighters abandoned their weapons and fled the area, which is a common tactic once air power starts targeting them as they try to blend in as part of the civilian population.
If these reports are accurate, and ISIS thought they could take on a base full of SF with air support for two hours, it’s safe to say that they were probably pinned down taking heavy casualties for most of it.
