The United States has blocked the sale of $1.2-million (1-million-euros) worth of arms to Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s security guards, following violence against protesters during Erdogan’s visit to Washington in May.

Earlier this year, the administration told Congress that it planned to allow New Hampshire gunmaker Sig Sauer to sell the weapons, which include hundreds of semi-automatic handguns and ammunition.

Following the assault on demonstrators, the Trump administration informed Ankara that it would put the sale on hold. Monday's Senate vote all but withdraws the proposal and could see future arms sales to Turkish security units blocked as well, AP reports.

Sig Seuer appeared to have pulled its request for the US government to sanction the sale to Turkey once it became apparent from Erdogan's office that they no longer planned to purchase the firearms.

We have a good small firearms industry why we are not using our own in the first place?
Many countries have their most elite and close protection forces to have the best equipment available as they're involved in the most challenging missions and proving security for the country's elite. Many spec op teams including the US opt for Germany's HK arsenal or other European firearms.

No wonder the guards protecting your president who are supposed to be your country's most elite person prefer using what they feel best

Don't know why this small arms sales is being blocked. Just ban the offending bodyguards.

Your response has nothing to do with the topic at hand. But since you are so good at using Google, you will find out why the sale was banned.

It was only a gesture and soft test, dumbas;
there are enough alternatives.

Why the hell would you buy a dumb Sig when you have up and coming Turkish brands like Canik that are selling like candy in the US?

Because Sigs are the Bentleys or Mercedes of firearms. I own several sigs including a cheaper sig handgun and the trigger, build quality and design is of the highest quality. You can also get custom sig packages to where you get competition triggers and other great offerings, including aesthetic such as custom grips and colors.

With that said, I also love my Glocks because of the simplicity, available, realizability and price. Sigs, Springfields, Glocks and many other manufacturers built great guns.

It all comes down to preference.

Sounds like you're just a regular 'ol victim of aggressive marketing @ptldM3 like so many others, including myself. No one's denying that Sigs or Glocks are quality. But so are Caniks and many others, except you're getting a very comparable quality gun at a significantly lower price point, e.g. MORE VALUE for you per dollar spent! Don't get me wrong, I -- hell, just about everyone in my family -- owns Glocks too. The reason you instinctively opt for Sigs/Glocks is several folds:
  • The insane marketing dollars spent by these brands on ads
  • Police/LE/FBI having purchased large amounts of Glocks/Sigs in the past due to bulk purchasing offerings, lobbying and frankly some corruption, which in time built up a strong brand reputation.
  • Group mentality (because people are sheep and parrots and we'll naturally follow and repeat without judging for ourselves)
I suggest you buy/rent/try a Canik at a shooting range first before badmouthing it. Who knows, maybe you'll become a fan too.
