Nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan said that he had not been contacted for the caretaker government, but added that the America was being consulted for the names of the interim set-up.
Speaking at the launch of NPP leader Syed Zia Abbas book, where he was invited as the chief guest, Dr Qadeer, considered the father of Pakistans nuclear programme, said that it was every citizens responsibility to cast their vote during the next elections. He hoped that the people of the country would elect honest and educated leaders.
The nuclear scientist also wanted politicians and political parties to play their role in restoring peace to the city. Dr Qadeer said that he had no role in politics and therefore it was not his job to restore law and order in the metropolis.
He hoped to see Pakistan as a strong, developed and prosperous nation and wanted to play a role in the industrialisation in the country. Dr Qadeer said he had offered his services for the industrialisation of Pakistan to General Zia-ul-Haq, but the military dictator, he added, was not sincere.
Turning his attention to religious parties, he said that these forces wanted their share in the government in Islamabad, but were unwilling to teach the youths of the nation to become good Muslims.
The nuclear scientist said it was the late Zulikar Ali Bhutto who agreed that he should serve Pakistan and turn it into a nuclear power. Dr Qadeer said that the former prime minister and founder of the PPP was a true Pakistani and he loved his country. He recalled that Bhutto had given the chance to serve the country and although the scientist faced certain troubles, he exercised patience and completed his task. He believed that there was no current threat to the country and Pakistan was safe.
Former Chief Justice of Pakistan justice (retd) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqi, Z A Nizami, Syed Zia Abbas. Dr Mairajul Huda, Salim Zia, Saeed Khawar, Tahir Hasan Khan, Farooq Moin and Ilyas Shakir also spoke on the occasion.
