BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:45 A.M.) – Under the title, “U.S. is confident that the F-35 is capable of destroying the S-400 in Syria”, Victor Sukerko wrote in the Russian publication “Svobodnaya Pressa” about the U.S.’ intention to test their F-35 against the Russian S-400 system in Syria.
According to Sukerko, “apparently, the American promotion of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is not going well in the global market, as long as they decide to sacrifice it, and put it in the range of the Russian S-400 air defense system.”
The journalist points to the U.S.’ upcoming F-35 test in Israel, which he believes will be used to specifically test the S-400 system at the Hmeimim Airbase in western Syria.
This claim was corroborated in an article by the Russian publication, Avia.Pro, as they said the U.S. will “conduct tests against the anti-aircraft missile system deployed at the Russian Hmeimim Airbase Syria.”
In the Avia.Pro article, they argue that Israel was not chosen as a “test wall” by chance. Combat aircraft in Israel periodically launch airstrikes in Syria, which gives the U.S. a basis to understand the complexities of the Russian air defense system.
“Therefore, the United States intends to demonstrate, with its partners, the combat capabilities of the F-35 in overcoming the modern Russian air defense system. On the whole, the site chosen for testing is ideal,” they added.
