The Assistant Secretary-General of the U.N. Peacekeeping Operations, Alain Le Roy, will pay a 2-day visit to Pakistan, a top troop contributing country, next week, a U.N. spokesman said Friday. Alain Le Roy, who will be in Pakistan from October 5 to 6, will also travel to Bangladesh and India, Associate Spokesman Farhan Haq told the regular noon briefing.
The peacekeeping chiefs trip, he said, was aimed at thanking the countries for their long-standing dedication to peacekeeping and to engage them in open discussion regarding the current and future peacekeeping challenges.
With around 11,000 troops, Pakistan is one of the largest troop contributors, constituting 11 per cent of the total UN Peacekeeeping force.
