Doha: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Tuesday received Ahmad Muath Al Khatib, head of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), on the sidelines of the Arab League summit.
Shaikh Mohammad and Al Khatib discussed the situation in Syria and ways to support the SNC to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Shaikh Mohammad reaffirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is supporting the Syrian cause and people to achieve their goals, and said that the UAE calls on the Syrian opposition forces to unite, consolidate joint work and expand their national base in Syria.
Shaikh Mohammad also reiterated the UAEs strong condemnation for all acts of violence in Syria. He described Al Khatibs address before the summit as moving, and that it expressed the desires and ambitions of the Syrian people. Shaikh Mohammad pointed out the role played by the Syrian community in the UAE and stressed the UAEs keenness on its well-being, especially during tough times in Syria.

Al Khatib expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the UAE for its supportive stance towards the Syrian cause. He said the Syrian people were always grateful to the UAE for support.
The meeting was attended by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Reem Ebrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State, and other senior officials.
