ABU DHABI (May 20 2009): Human Rights Watch accused the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday of exploiting thousands of Asian workers hired to build museums and art galleries on a showcase island. Rights groups have criticised conditions in which labourers work in the UAE, a Gulf Arab country whose population has shot up to 4.5 million in recent years due to rapid urban development with mostly foreign migrant workers.

Many migrant workers are housed in shanty camps, work long hours under intense summer heat and humidity, and employers often retain their passports, preventing them returning home. The UAE has taken some measures in response to international criticism and a government statement in response to the report faulted HRW for not highlighting the steps.

"While the UAE government has moved to improve housing conditions and ensure the timely payment of wages in recent years, many labour abuses remain commonplace," the report by the New York-based HRW said. The HRW report refers to Saadiyat Island which is planned to be the centre of a prestigious "cultural district" in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi. French museum.

Haven't I wrote before that arabs treat us like animals? What can you expect from people that have wealth (oil) but no manners or history besides walking around in the sand... Even in the west arabs are notorious. Unfortunately the Jabjum in Holland is bankrupt but as I think Neo knows that the frequent users of expensive prostitution are arabs. Just like the young pretty girls in Maroc...

This is common place in UAE. The arabs have a lot of money and do not care about the labour working there.

Majority of the labour get a maximum of 700-900 dirham salary which is not even peanuts; employer takes their passport; they dont have health insurance; which by the way is compulsory in the UAE to get hold of a work visa.

Labour Exploitation

Every form of protest is banned in the UAE; authorities directly deport anyone trying to raise a voice against the government.

UAE deports workers

Emiratis fail to realise all the **** that happens in their country; recently with a member of the royal family indulging in torture. The govt even stopped the local papers to print any news regarding the event. Nothing is going to change though with these people; they were like this even at the time of Prophet SAW; they havent progressed one bit from the time of "jahilia"... :hitwall:

What do you expect from them when we send a whole bunch of sweepers to their country? They get a feeling that the whole sub continents are sweeping nations as to why you see that attitude.
Once I had a stop over in Dubai, and I talke to the immigration guy like a westerner and he treated me like a king, he even offered me the front of the line and later while I was waiting to get the port entry visa he offered me a chair.. LOL
SUCKERS
