WASHINGTON, June 4 (Yonhap) -- Top U.S. and Japanese defense policymakers on Wednesday emphasized the need for stronger trilateral cooperation with South Korea, apparently seeking to maintain momentum in the effort viewed more cautiously in Seoul.

In a Pentagon meeting, Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work and Vice Defense Minister Masanori Nishi "underscored the importance of strengthening trilateral defense cooperation with the Republic of Korea, and noted recent progress in this area," said Lt. Cmdr. Courtney Hillson, a Pentagon spokesperson.
