FAISALABAD: Speakers at a goat distribution ceremony vowed to take initiatives for poverty alleviation in rural areas.

Under TIKA project “Goat breeding for reducing poverty and strengthening the role of women in rural areas” 256 goats were distributed among rural areas. TIKA Coordinator Kenan Yusal, Commissioner Syed Tahir Hussain and UAF Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan were present in the ceremony. Kenan Yusal said through goat breeding project people of Turkey and Pakistan would come closer to each other. He said in Turkey there were thousands of people with a wish to help Pakistani brothers and sisters through various economic generation projects. “We should go for more cooperation as TIKA has the intention to make strong collaboration with Pakistani institutions aiming at promoting mango exports to Turkey,” he added. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said his office was vigorously working on making different proposals including TIKA Extension Centre, Skill Development Centre, aiming at arresting the growing poverty by involving rural community in self-support programmes. He said distribution of cows among rural people was also on the cards by TIKA, which would start through experts of animal husbandry of UAF. Dr Khan said his university had inked an MoU with Ankara University and he would like to be partner of proposed Turkish University, Lahore. He said the UAF would like to have skills development programmes through TIKA to directly target the neglected and marginalised segments of society. Syed Tahir Hussain, Commission Faisalabad Division, said distributing goats among rural women was a new initiative by TIKA, which would certainly bring the desired fruits. He was of the view people of both countries had sentiments of brotherhood.

Where ever the word Pakistan and Turkey pops up it is always followed by the word brotherhood.

Even when knowing lots of Turks , i always have wondered why there seems to be a natural bond between the two nations which gets only stronger. If can be translated into geoeconomics cooperation , that would have huge benefits for both.

We are both countries surrounded by enemies and based on nationalism with our respective fathers of the nation, Ataturk and Jinnah.

only Pakistan can help itself......

enact the proper reforms (not too quickly, but in a calculated fashion - to avoid unrest)

fix the taxation system; make accountability and anti-corruption a priority (sacking of prime minister set a good precedent)

and regular Pakistanis -- stop voting in crooks

How much is Turkish FDI in Pakistan?

approx. 2 billion $USD; after a recent meeting both sides vowed to increase it 3-fold.

militarily as well, the relations are quite sound and solid
