BARA: Around 10 suspected militants were killed as clashes between Ansarul Islam (AI) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) erupted in the troubled Tirah Valley on late Monday evening.
Assistant Political Agent (APA) Bara Nasir Khan said that the clashes started when AI fighters attacked the check post held by TTP militants, in an attempt to take control over it. As a result, four AI fighters were killed and three sustained injuries while six TTP men were gunned down and seven were injured.
The APA said that AI spokesperson Sadat Afridi confirmed the casualties. He added that the TTP militants have shifted the bodies to an undisclosed location along with the injured. According to the spokesperson of the AI, the group has taken control over the Dwa Stanai check post.
On January 25, clashes between TTP, AI, Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) and Kamar Khel pro government militia erupted, which left over 100 TTP, 40 AI, 23 LI and 16 pro-government militia men dead, while hundreds were injured. The ongoing conflict made around 700 people flee the area.
The clashes continued till February 4 and then started again on February 10, when AI fighters attacked the TTP-held check post.
The Tirah Valley has been under the control of militants engaged in a deadly turf war. Strategically an important area, the valley borders Afghanistan and also connects to Bara.
